I've written a play aid for a tactical war game. It includes a couple of charts from the game itself as well as some implementation of rules themselves. No rules texts or even instructions on how those rules work. Just a way to track things.

For example, hit locations. The actual process is a wee bit more detailed but the gist of it is

1. Roll a die.
2. Look at the chart
3. Scroll across until it shows something you can hit.

Example (not from the game itself): you roll a 1, which says to hit the ear. You roll it again. Now they're out of ears. The next 1 hits an eye until they're out of eyes. The next one kills them.

Another thing implemented is the (fairly complex) initiative system.

My question: would I be able to put this on the android app store (no cost or ads, if that matters). I'd rather work directly with the game developer but also want to make the tool usable by anyone who wants it.

If you don't use any artwork from the game, you can do that with no trouble. If you want to use actual artwork, you'll have to get written permission from the publisher.

Do charts or tables count as artwork? They'd be replication, not screenshots, if that matters.

Never heard of it. I'd rather not mention the name yet on the off chance someone who knows the publisher is around. I'd much rather work *with* them than try to make some sort of legal end run around them.

Have you contacted the publisher directly? I’m curious to know if they responded.

Welcome aboard by the way.

Thanks!

Yes, I have. They're "looking into it" but have been since January 2020.

If there was ever a game that could benefit from a good companion app.....
