'transmedia' and 'metaverse' makes me want to stick pencils in my eyes.

It sounds like with all those cooks in the kitchen, they’ll burn thru the entire $2m , then go KS their first actual game.

Sounds to me like they are trying to reinvent exactly what Awaken Realms are doing, which is no bad thing. They talk a bit about narrative-led and learn-as-you-play which I feel is a great starting point and I’m pleased to see more designers and publishers lean in that direction. A lot of hype though around ‘we are too modest to talk about how this will totally be the Next Big multi-media franchise’ which is a tired old sales pitch.

Huh, sounds like something along the lines of Descent 3 with "learn as you go" on top. They need to partner with Meta and use the oculus. Cool physical display minis with swappable equipment that translate into a virtual playspace like that old "Eye of Judgement" playstation game, and to a lesser extent Skylanders and the switch Starfox spaceship game would be pretty dope.

DnD players would go NUTS for a decent mini that had a big stack of weapons, spellbooks, and armor pieces to go with it.

Wasn't Golem Arcana trying to do something like that with miniatures? Scan QR codes/RFID chips/magic crystal shards and the current location with a reader and the app then knew everything about the current combat. That you could do all the calculations yourself, but the app was meant to handle all the combat +/-. It looked cool, but was a bit pricey.

Great news you can get all of it on blowout clearance for basically nothing these days.

Hill's Wholesale always has Golem Arcana product at clearance and extra clearance prices... there was some recent outrage about the game app being left broken and unsupported by the developers, though. (Just another reason why Spotify and BG Stats are the closest I let apps to my boardgames. That, and this app I found that makes "pew! pew!" sound effects for X-Wing.)

Between the lines, this reads like a marketing/startup approach to me. I don't think I or anyone who reads this are their target audience.
I am looking forward to see how they plan on making something like that for people who are used to the first level of video games, where you are led by the hand and don't need to read or remember anything to play.
The names of Wilson and Day are good for a six-figures-kickstarter no matter what, though.

I don't know about Kevin Wilson but I know Felicia Day has already jumped into the NFT/crypto token shit. I know KW has given us some great games, but this sounds entirely marketing-run, so I imagine we'll get a standard adventure game with a bunch of AR nonsense tacked on.
