My Son Stole Reiner Knizia's Soul

You've heard of the acronym JASE right? (Just another soulless Euro) Well as we all know the good Dr. Knizia has been accused of cannibalizing his own games and having no good or new ideas in over a decade... people say he lost his soul. Well, I think my son gobbled it up.

You have probably read this somewhat famous quote from the Dr. "When playing a game, the goal is to win, but it is the goal that is important not the winning."

Well yesterday my son told me: "Daddy, I don't mind losing because that means I have a better chance of winning next time."

I like my Son's version better and I have a very good reason for that. He's my son. I have more reasons too, but I erased them, it sounded like pretentious BS and I was getting far too poetic.

I will add this one bit though, my wife doesn't mind playing a game with me... occasionally (I never ask, but if she asks fine). But she doesn't actually care if she wins... which infuriates me. I want my opponent to want to win. So I'm feeling like my son is on the right track.

Afterward: I haven't played any recent Knizia games so I have no opinion on the current state of his soul.
