If I had to pick just one, I would say Jonny Quest.

*Looney Tunes (classic warner bros material)
*Jonny Quest (the violent original series from the '60s)
*Scooby Doo (just the first season)
*Fat Albert & the Cosby Gang
*Hong Kong Phooey

(no Saturday morning cartoons from the '80s, they were all just toy commercials)

*The Simpsons (there were several great seasons in the '90s)
*The Tick
*Batman: the Animated Series
*Pinky & the Brain
*Batman Beyond
*Jackie Chan Adventures (surprisingly tight continuity, from episode to episode and season to season)

I am a cartoon junkie! It is a passion of mine.

Original Popeye cartoons 33-38 are amazing. My favorite ever by far. The animation is really well done and the shows are incredibly surreal. great great stuff. Everyone should go buy them.

Bob Clampett's Looney Tunes, I like chuck jones and tex avery and all the other guys as well but when Bob Clampett got control of the animator Rod Schadling (spelling may be wrong) man few cartoons are better then that!

Ren & Stimpy but only when John K is on board so that would be the first 2 seasons and then the "Adult Party Cartoon" that came out on DVD in about 2006. Those are weird but great cartoons.

Pixar

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is great especially if your familar with Golden era animation because the references are through the roof in this great film. The little short at the beggining makes for a great cartoon.

Triplets of Bellville

Samurai Jack was fun

Today?? Sponge Bob isn't too bad.

Invader Zim is my favorite.

I've watched a lot of other cartoons, but none of them really stand out like Invader Zim did to me.

Heh, I loved Johnny Bravo, Daria, Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy when I was a kid. B&B still make me laugh a lot.

The Fleischer SUPERMAN cartoons are pretty much tops.

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARVES is still mindblowing.

THE SIMPSONS is the greatest television series of all time (as long as you ignore some of the dodgy recent seasons).

Anything Miyazaki touches is to be treasured and cherished.

Most TV/toy cartoons aren't as awesome as you remember them.

Spongebob Squarepants was brilliant for a few seasons, now it's worn out

The old Popeye cartoons are WEIRD but great

BATMAN: TAS is great, but its greatness rests on a couple of episodes

Pretty much all of the Timm-verse DC cartoons (Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited). Superman being the weakest link, but still had some great moments to it. You have to give the shows credit, all of them created elements that have since been incorporated into DC comics.

And for just plain, silly fun I love Phineas & Ferb.

Ah, you beat me to it, but yeah, they are. Agreed on the Miyazaki as well.

Nobody's mentioned Ren & Stimpy yet? It's probably the best kids show ever made.

Teeny Little Super Guy blew my mind when I was little because it seemed like they'd somehow gotten cartoons to exist in the real world.

ALL the old Fleischers are awesome... Betty Boop rocks too.

I guess I am nobody... that's sad.

Cripes most of my faves are already mentioned.

Superman: Why cuz' they're like animated Edward Hopper paintings. Beautiful rich colours (jade greens, brownstone browns, straw yellows)in a spacious Art Deco landscape. If there's an afterlife that's where I'll be.

Miyazaki: He captures human emotions, nuances and gestures like no other animator. I've watched "My Neighbour Totoro" dozens of times with my girls and I've never tired of it. Jo Hisaishi's scores are exquisite.

Ren & Stimpy: They trod such dangerous & disturbing territory when they debuted. A lot of contemporary cartoons owe a huge debt to R&S (Adult Swim I'm looking at you!).

Spiderman: Along with Kraft Dinner (with cut-up hot dogs) and Kool-Aid lunches at home, Spiderman was a part of a well-balanced meal growing up. It had a winning combination of Psychadelic and Pop Art stylings with a groovy horn soundtrack.

Loony Tunes: Too many classics to name but another Saturday morning staple

Ooops, sorry sir. I guess I missed that.

Some other great cartoons:

The Yellow Submarine - Screw all those Disney musicals.
Wallace & Gromit - The original three shorts.
Cowboy Bebop - Even if you hate Anime, this is a fun show.

That and Neon Genesis Evangelion are about the only anime series I can recommend to people.
