As that Florence guy points out the game costs only 70 pound in the UK, which is ridiculous really because FFG coffin box games cost more than that.

If they suck people will make better rules.

Wow, yeah that video does have me eating my words a bit. If it's really self-contained like Space Hulk, I just might bite. Paint up the figs, play for a while and sell it off.

It must be cheaper in the UK because it is GW's home country. Because I sure as fuck have never payed $190 for a FFG coffin box in Oz. With the dollar the way it is you are looking at around $110. So this is $80 more.
How GW are pulling A$190 under the current economy I have no idea. Talk about ripping us off. If I do get it (unlikely) I'd easily get it at half the price from OS including shipping.

But the reality is while I love the cloth map, and love the way they have given each ship its own history, as a game I'm expecting typical GW fair (lot of randomness, sloppily unfinished design) and those pieces while they look fucking awesome are models, not game pawns, so once the cool factor wears off I'm left with a fragile pain in the ass.
If this was a normal game I'd keep an eye on it, but buying this blind because it's "limited edition"? Nah, that marketing trick wont work on me, not at $190 anyway.

Skelly, that price point is, unfortunately, not unique to Dreadfleet. GW made a huge price change to their stuff in Australia a couple months back that they argue is based on currency valuation (e.g. they have to price it that way to make a profit in AUS$.) They also set terms for their Euro distributors that they could no longer sell via the Web to Australia. The whole GW community down there is irked, to say the least. I find it hard to believe they'd have to alter their price structure that radically because they've basically just killed their sales in that region of the world.

If you were really interested, I'd have offered to try to snag another one here and ship it to you.

70 Sterling = 110.50 US Dollar. It's the same price in the UK and US. You southrons get fucked, but not us.

Frankly jack it's GW bullshit. This situation would only be true if GW MANUFACTURED in Australia. It doesn't. So how the hell does their claim make any sense?
If the Australian dollar is worth more (and it's above parady currently) then GW australia is shipping in those dreadfleets at a cheaper price relative to the US dollar. If it was the reverse (and it was a few years ago) when the Oz dollar was worth 60US cents then Games Workshop are claiming they wouldn't have to jack their prices up? Pigs Arse.
My Gears of War Pre-order is $86. Dreadfleet pre-order is $190. That's not balanced in terms of worth and I recon a lot of the Australian copies of Dreadfleet will end up being shipped back to the US. It's half the price of an Xbox360 for goodness sake!

Thanks for the offer BTW, but it would be easier for me just to grab it off thoughthammer or something if I decide to get it.

U!S!A!

I'm going to sell off my Descent stuff to get this, I think. I figure that my base set plus two expansions should about cover it, no?

Road to Legend alone will cover it.

I don't have that. Just the Well of Despair and another one.

What's "another one"?
If it's Altar of Despair I think it's pretty rare currently.

I've been pondering Uncharted Seas, because I think that MoW *IS* just a little too fiddly. I've been without a naval game I could really enjoy.

That it is a fixed set minis game with a campaign designed around the bits and an event-centric model absolutely sealed this one for me. If it pulls off half the thing it promises, it will be well worth the money. I also have been looking at the GW model sets just because their new sculpts are so amazing. I kind of want a Morr's Garden just because...

As to the price. Cloth mat and that many large ship minis? And every single piece unique? $115 seems about right. Assembly should be a couple of hours. Painting....may take awhile.

1. It's $135 in Canada (which has been above US par for a year now), so the Australian's aren't the only getting fucked by GW pricing.

2. After quick eBay glance because of the Road to Legend comment, what the hell is up with RtL pricing??? (Rhetorical Q - I realize that it must be OOP with no reprint because of the Descent edition change).

Tempted, but still leaning more towards picking up some Spartan Games stuff with the money.
