HeroQuest 25th Anniversary Edition, en Español

http://www.heroquest.es/index.php?topic=8728.0

A deluxe 25th Anniversary edition of HeroQuest, to be released in 2014, was announced by representatives of Gamezone Miniatures, a Spanish company that primarily makes wargaming miniatures. Plans for the game components include dual-sided modular boards and resin miniatures for four heroes (male and female variations), monsters in different poses, and terrain features. Although licensing issues with the HeroQuest brand name preventing Gamezone from distributing the game outside Spain, the company is planning on releasing the game in multiple languages. Gamezone is considering crowdsourcing the funding for this new edition.

Edit: via purplepawn.com, and fixed title. Damn phone.

Didn't expect my phone to autocorrect one brand name into a different one.

Just came over to repost. Wow - still think it'll be tough for this to come to fruition and be better than the old copy I have. But even if it does come out and doesnt surpass it, other can enjoy the simple HeroQuest goodness!

(I though about leaving it. Kind of a funny inadvertent troll, but I'm moderately positive that Scape hasn't been around for 25 years yet.)

Man my formative years had a lot of Heroquesting, my dad and I would play with my little brothers quite a bit. Great board game, hope it doesn't get overly technical like the advanced version (not that it was all that complicated, but the appeal to Heroquest was how delightfully simple it was while still having some RPG flavor).

Anyhow, I'll be buying it, then buying another once the board is ruined by beer.

Wow, what a coincidence, I was pondering whether to sell my base game recently. I guess I better decide soon before prices drop.

That's cool, but when is GW going to rerelease WarhammerQuest?

WarhammerQuest is sort of a dog held up on high by those who haven't played it. We'd take AHQ everytime. The GM-less version is kind of a joke and the town encounters can get old fairly quick. How many times is the barbarian going to get 'Mighty Worrier' tattooed?

Anyway, it looks like this HQ25th thing is still a go.

I understand it'll be crowd funded. Not sure if kickstarter or what not. I'm not sure how much I'm willing to pay, but we'll see. IMHO, HQ is like the 5th leg of fantasy gaming. Not really necessary, but quite good to have. (The big 4 being: D&D, Titan, Talisman, Warhammer - with those 4 you've got it all: rpgs, wargame, boardgame, and minisgame)

Ah, but GM'd Warhammer Quest is awesome. It totally works as a lite RPG, and includes a surprisingly complete set of rules for such.
I think Descent 2nd Edition has surpassed it. Finally. The only thing WQ still has is that it can do exploration and weird dungeon crap better.

The WQ campaign system is still one of the more functional ones, but seriously breaks down after some point. The problem also exists in the WFRP original RPG, as the D6 with all of the pluses starts to create some weird circumstances.

Going back and playing the IOS WQ game does show me that a reworked WQ might have some value. They reined in the event frequency quite a bit, and added some extra powers.

As to AHQ being better. Nah. It was really more of a skirmish game. And it never really got enough extra expansions to get off the ground.

Are we talking about the same game?

AHQ is backwards compatible with HQ so there's all of that material. Oh, and the adventures in White Dwarf. Plus, don't forget it comes with a quick dungeon generator and Terror in the Dark has a robust campaign generator. AHQ actually ends up with more official supplemental resources.

AHQ also beats WHQ in being a lite rpg. Players roll up their characters in AHQ rpg style as opposed to the canned, pre-generated characters (of dubious balance) in WHQ. It's the only crawler (that I recall) where characters have to worry about stuff like what to do with their gold and treasure between adventures. They can't keep it all with them and they've got options on how secure they want their holdings. We also dug all the flavors of hirelings the party could take on. AHQ also required a player to map the dungeon (I miss this from early rpg days) in order for the party to resume where they left off. Using d12s the creatures were more varied in their stats and abilities than what you see in WHQ. Add all of the options the GM has with the tokens (villain escape, fate, traps, etc), AHQs generators keeping the dungeons somewhat themed (undead, orcs/goblins, chaos, etc), the grim black & white illustrations, and we found AHQ to provide a deeper, more old school dungeon-crawl than the flashier, shallower d6 based WHQ.

Here's another take: boardgamegeek.com/article/11336483#11336483

Someone who doesn't like paying cost of living, buying replacement arrows, spell components, etc (all a plus in my book), but may actually provide the best review of the game: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1037089/dungeon...e-this-realistic-a-r

a link to the rulebook for the curious: www.mediafire.com/view/24l4cxq5uwh24r1/A...roquest-Rulebook.pdf
(may favorite AHQ image is on page 35. The elf carrying the wounded wizard out of the dungeon with the dwarf dragging a treasure chest.)

AHQ is way more than just a skirmish game and the one game that I regret selling.

Latest news is that it's crowd funding (kickstarter) will be from 22nd November to 21st of December with the following levels:

$89 Basic Game (+- 65€)
$110 Basic Game with a Heroes Expansion* (+- 82€)
$150 Basic Game, Heroes Expansion and all rewards unlocked (+- 112€)

Fimir are out (GW copyright), but some other reptilian monster is in.

Looking at these cards, I'm _really_ hoping the game has that late 80's GW 'warm', 'autumn' dungeon vibe as seen below. Hell, any kinda old school vibe and I'm likely in. I'm _really_ hoping this does for old school dungeoncrawling what Dungeon Crawl Classics RPGs did for old school rpgs.

Gamezone makes really quality miniatures, and the fact that I've got 1,000 or so in dungeon terrain, miniatures, and dungeon dressing makes this a total autobuy.
