OMG...these guys are living the dream.
Playing a fantasy battle in a snowy battlefield on one half the table, while skirmishing in a mountain stronghold on the other...damn!

Wow, if that first one is a Warhammer game, that seems like a shitload of terrain.

Yeah, that's the Bring Out Your Lead event hosted by Foundry Miniatures. Every year it looks more and more awesome. I love the Oldhammer movement, there's so much great painting, storytelling and creativity there.
Some of my favorite Oldhammer blogs:
Magpie and Old Lead
Realm of Chaos 80s
Lead Plague
Scale Creep
Oldhammer on a Budget
Sho3box
And the Oldhammer groups on Facebook are pretty good too.

Yeah, that's really the point. Early editions of Warhammer were focused less on points based, balance but on setting up fun scenarios to play out...balance was a second thought. It wasn't until the tourney scene exploded in the 90s that WFB changed. This also impacted BB to a degree as well. Notice how 2nd edition has a lot of fun rules like werewolves running off with skeleton legs...all gone. Granted, the current edition of BB is fantastic, but you get the good with the bad. In some ways, it appears as if AoS is an attempt to go back to those sort of games. We can see how the modern community took to a non-points based game though...not so well. GW now has a point ruleset for AoS (which a lot of people seem to like). From ufe20's thread it sounds like there's still a lot of room in AoS for creativity. I'm intrigued.
The only Oldhammer game proper I have is Dark Future, but in my modern games I like to bring something fun and unique in the spirit of the old GW. Some of my coaches like the zany house-rules, some think I go to far. There all just games to me, so I just wanna have fun.
Going to one of these conventions abroad would be the business though. In the meantime...PitCon!
