Space Hulk vs Lost Patrol

I don't think enough of us have played both to schedule a Trashdome proper, but for those that have, what's the tale of the tape here?

Painting some tyranids is high on my list, so this fella needs to know.

I'm thinking Space Hulk is deeper, with longer legs, but alas pricier.
Lost Patrol is on the cheap, but may not be played as often.

Is that about right? Can a couple of you settle this?

Now, I do have SH:DA, so there's that...but Space Hulk is such a classic. Oy!

Space Hulk is a genre-defining game. Lost Patrol is a fun game that shares traits with many other games.

No comparison.

It's definitely worth owning both, knowing that you'll be playing Space Hulk less often.

Pete had it right. Space Hulk is the better game, but Lost Patrol would hit the table all the time. It takes all of 15 minutes to set up and play. You're lucky if you have Space Hulk set up in that time.

Considering the genestealers would work in both, why not both?

I will say that space hulk can be challenging for the marines at times, but at least its winnable with good tactics.

My main beef with Lost Patrol is actually the stealers. Had it been hormagaunt it would be no brainer...

That's a good point. I would have preferred if they went with a handful of Lictors. Let Space Hulk be the marines vs a hive of xenos (Aliens) and Lost Patrol be the commandos vs a few, more powerful creatures (Predators)

Damn...sounds like another neat project...

Lost Patrol seems like a miniatures set with some simple masochistic rules included for a quick non-game.

I confess, Lost Patrol did very little for me. I liked how easy the rules were, which meant I could play it with my son, but my two-player game time is already pretty lean, and any time I ever would want to bust out one of these games, it'd be Space Hulk every time.

That said, now that I'm trying painting, still having Lost Patrol around would be good practice.
