MDF Buildings?

MDF Buildings? was created by barrowdown
Anyone have any experience with MDF buildings? Any company recommendations?

I'm currently eyeing Warsenal , Knights of Dice , and Warmill . Warsenal and Warmill look the most functional and use the presumably sturdier 3mm board, while Knights of Dice certainly strikes me as the best looking, but uses thinner 1.8mm board with a lot of fancy (possibly weak) decorations.

I'm looking at picking up a few to use for skirmish games and am not sure what I should be considering. How fragile is the stuff? Should I be getting functional, sturdy buildings even if I prefer cooler looking with lots of ornamentation?

I have an airbrush and I am not particularly concerned about the amount of painting required, so prepainting is not necessarily a bonus due to the price premium.

For some reason this stuff scares me. Something about it just reeks of toxicity! It's some kind of weird paranoia!

Well the dust is probably toxic, so I'll need to sand it in the garage. I'm sure it's about as dangerous as resin or white metal minis; just don't breathe or eat the waste and you will be fine.

I like miniaturescenery.com for least MDF-y looking build. Gamecraft miniatures offers a lot. Warbases has some really cheap modular housing.

Then if I don't have to worry about money and duty, I'd get Spartan Scenics modular base.

Well, being as they had a nice sale yesterday, I ordered a lot of Warsenal stuff to try out.

Their aesthetic is close enough to both 40k and Infinity to work for me.

If you want to see how bad ass you can make them, go to the Superfly Circus Facebook page and look at the photos of the junkyard and the command center

The only mdf buildings I've built are from www.4ground.co.uk . They're preprinted and the price isn't too bad at all. Relatively straightforward forward to construct, very sturdy and look great

If you're looking for "American city" type terrain you can get Plasticville stuff on eBay for cheap and it always seems to be on clearance at model train sites. I have a massive amount of it.

I did look at 4ground because I love the look of their historical and fantasy buildings, but their sci-fi stuff leaves me cold.

Thanks for the recommend Pete, I'll take a look at your pics. The command center is one of the buildings I ordered so it will be nice to see a non-company photo.

After Dinner I'll show off some of my stuff so you can see the difference between the stock photos and what you can do if properly motivated LOL
