Southernman may remember watching this "programme" back in his 50s...

Bell of Lost Souls ran a cool feature today about a U.K. wargame TV show from the late 70s called Battleground. Edward Woodward introduces the battle for the show and then two wargamers with awful hair play it out with lots of shots of lovely historical miniatures and a beautiful terrain table. Not sure what system they are using. But the rules are never really described.

It's very quiet, awkward and really pretty boring. But it is also kind of wonderful. Footage of actual gaming in his era is almost non-existent.

Sounds a bit like the more recent (as in, was only on a couple of months ago) Time Commanders, shown on BBC4. Two teams get to refight historical battles, with a couple of experts on hand to dish out historical detail coupled with sequences of folks battering the hell out of each other with replica weapons from the period. The fights are all computerised (looks like the Total War engine) so it doesn't have the cool scenery and models aspect to it but it's a good show (if you like geeking out about historical battles and how things could have gone).

I'm a Kiwi (not a Brit) and we probably had more US shows back then (in my TEENS :-) ) so have no input at all for this thread apart from adding a post to waste people's time on.

Eh, I always forget. Since I'm an American, you are all foreign nationals to me anyway. Like Black Barney.
