Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game

Looks like GW is axing The Hobbit and turning it into Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game...will be "more like" AOS/40k. Releasing later this year.

Hopefully it will make it easier to actually, you know, get into the game.

Sounds like it may move away from look/designs of The Hobbit films.

Hobbit was already MESBG. Just some arguably minor tweaks and a new name.

The game needs a decent starter set, and one hasn't been made for it since the return of the king. Otherwise it may as well be a forgeworld only game, looking at the prices even ancient shitty plastic goblins command.

One of the best games GW produced plagued by GW mismanagement.

Maybe the new and improved GW can rectify this as they've done so much else right lately.

Hey, I just bought this game! Is it any good? If it sucks I can at least use the minis for Dragon Rampant.

The box says there are 84 minis in this starter set, so plenty to assemble, but pleasantly most of them are one-piece with only an arm or a weapon to attach. I think I read these are the old sculpts (from the first time around, circa 2001, when it was just LOTR/Hobbit) but they still look pretty good for a larger skirmish game.

Yes, those are great sculpts. The leader dude on a horse is a new one, think the only one in the bunch.

The game is kind of in between a mass battle game and skirmish in scale. It plays very well and is pretty unique, at least in terms of a GW ruleset.

I almost went whole hog with it but ultimately moved on due to not having fantasy terrain and too many other games. Wish I could still play it.
