That is going to be one set. The thing GW sells is actually a three pack for $65. But don’t sweat it, you may only wind up wanting 1 set’s worth and you can always flip a set if you do want more.

I saw that Wizkids set at a shop Saturday- the frogs are really too small. I actually have the official Crow Master.

I may go with this dude’s frogs, they look really good www.toadkingcastings.co.uk/store/p9/Gian...ds_%28Medium%29.html

I just checked out the auction. It seems there are a lot out that are selling a single set of ruins for $30ish.

I don't think that is the new triple set. That looks like the old set that I have.

Dunno if you were aware or whatever. But figured I'd mention it in case you wanted the 3/$65 deal instead of 1/$35.

Is it not possible to cancel the order? I thought if a cancellation on ebay was timely that there was no harm. I may be wrong though.

It's not a big deal, I'm sure I'll use it.

Last night I woke up at 4am and suddenly realised I already have enough painted miniatures left over from my Warhammer days to play this. Two necromancers and ten undead from my Vampire Counts army, two druids and ten infantry from my Empire army.

So I bought a copy. I hate you all.

Heh heh...but it’s really the terrain you need a lot of...

I bought all of the books. I’m all in at this point. Great, great game.

I had intentions of playing a quick solo match last night to get a feel for it, but ended up spending the whole evening building the warband and sorting out what minis I had. The spells are really cool and I could think of all kinds of neat situations for them; although the ones that are LoS may be questionable based on the terrain since it specifically doesn't want tons of sight lines everywhere.

It's worth noting that my wizard is named Fabulous Melchor, and that sniveling apprentice bringing up the rear is Stinky Daryl.

I sense great things in store for Stinky Daryl. Mostly because Fabulous Melcor will likely be eaten by a turd demon on the sewers of Felstad.

I finished pouring through all of my Frostgrave PDFs last night and collecting all the relevant bits into one large tome 97 pages long without pics.

Conversions for hex based play was completed during the transcription. I reduced anything that said 24" into 12" (8 hexes). 24" range on anything is ridiculous and never plan on playing on a board larger than 24x24 hexes (roughly 3' square.).

Other bits like area effects required a bit more creativity to solve, since you can't really do 2" or 3" circles.

Fog and wall were made into 4 hexes long, but may be allowed to be placed in a continuous snake instead of a straight line.

Ulterior Motive cards are finished in Photoshop as well, removing the poor grammatical errors and redundancies found within them along with hex conversions.

Blah blah blah. More crap only the Heroscape community would appreciate.

Tl;Dr
Frostscape is now completed in one giant battle bible so that I don't have to do maths calculations on the fly anymore.

Looking at the books, what do I "need" beyond the core rules?

You really don't have to buy anything extra. We've been playing for a year and haven't made it out of the first book yet.

We did print out the spell cards. It is handy to have everything together and I just write the threshold numbers for the wizard and apprentice on the cards. Everybody has their own set.

I can't think of anything in that strata.
The sourcebooks and such are nice, but I could play a long time with just the rulebook before I felt the need to buy anything else. I only bought the other stuff to investigate if I did "need" anything else. Turns out, that I could have saved myself the cash. But they are filled with interesting possibilities, so not a waste.

But if you "needed" to buy something else along with the rulebook, then probably the closest thing to compulsory after the rulebook is the ulterior motives deck.

These cards really do alter the core game scenarios enough to be pretty good. Some cards do reference expansion material, but those references can be ignored and still function just fine.

The drawback is that you will need two sets of 8 objective markers (one set for each player to use. Redundancy due random nature of the card draw, "just in case") that will be used as red herrings. These can be anything, so just get creative.

Here's a review made by Joel Eddy that pretty well sums up the expansion.
