Two hundred and ninety dollars.

<long decresending whistle>

Man, I dunno...that is big bucks.

If I don’t get a review copy (highly improbable) I may have to sit this one out.

OMG, I bought Titan Legions for 300 francs in 1994. With inflation correction, it would be 65 € today, so one third of the asking price. I guess games price have inflated faster than food or other commodities, but still, it is worse than house inflation between these times...

When you compare it to the $200 FFG are asking for the super star destroyer or the $300 the giant Azul costs it's not too bad ... but yeah, a lot of money still. It costs more than I was hoping for but realistically it's in the sort of ball park I was expecting.

Indeed, but what makes me sad is that if I was a teenager today, I could certainly not buy into 6mm 40K as I did 25 years ago.

Hell no :) As a 39 year old the price is making me think twice!

If one of my mates gets into this then I think I'm all in. If not, then my common sense is in for one hell of a fight with my desire for big stompy 40k mechs.

Games Workshop may be pursuing a comparable strategy to comic book publishers of 20 years ago. Instead of continuing to offer an accessible product for young potential players (teens and 20s), they are offering more expensive and elaborate products for an aging demographic that has more money to spend now. It's a great short and medium-term strategy with a poor long-term forecast. Comics should have died off within a decade of hitting the $4.00 mark, but the success of the movies and tv shows leave the comics as a potential ongoing source of source material for tv/movies.

I think GW are looking to hit both demographics. They've definitely released a lot of expensive nostalgia fuelled products of late but they've also got a line of simpler board games about to come out and a series of novels specifically aimed at kids.

I was thinking $185 for the starter box. So it’s over $100 what I felt like a “reasonable” price would be. I thought there would be more of a savings, as is usually with their box sets...I guess it’s there, given that the Titans are $100 each and you get two plus Knights, buildings, etc...but still.

I mean, the reality of it is that if you buy Kill Team, another one of the box KTs, and either a Mechanicus/Munitorium environment or another Imperialis terrain kit you are getting up to that price. But it’s not an all in one purchase.

*Sigh*...I dunno, I REALLY want this but damn. There is also the issue that it’s going to be like Blood Bowl, add on stuff is going to be Forge World. Expensive and resin. Yuck.

Yeah, that seems like it's for the dedicated GW completionist and not necessarily the people that have been playing the new board games like Silver Tower. I got out of GW years ago because of the trend toward giant monsters that lay waste to the table. And I loooooovvvvve Epic. I think it's the best wargame they've ever made. It's fun having huge regiments accompanied by huge robots. But this is a bridge too far for me, even if I do have the money.

As comparison, for 10 pound less you could get 2 40k Imperial Knights (which is only slightly bigger than the Warlords) and 2 Armigers. So, the price is kind of on point.

Virtually everyone wants this to be the return of Epic. But at this price...it’s just going to die on the vine, I think. The smart thing to do would have been to release this set with less expensive push fit models and simpler terrain. Get the price under $150 so that it is on par with starting other GW games.

But this “limited” crap attached to it sucks too. So if it does blow up and everyone is playing it at my FLGS...it’s going to be scarce until 2019? It’s almost like they don’t want this game to survive...

It’s also coming in on the heels of Kill Team, which is awesome and inexpensive...I can’t imagine someone going in $300 for a starter set right now.

I suppose it's only the big set that's limited edition though. I know it kind of makes sense to start with that but as far as I know, all the other sets are non-limited.

It might cost more in the long run building up a game with the smaller sets but at least people could do it piecemeal and spread the cost out.

Yeah, when you look at it that way it makes more sense...but I think most folks want to be able to buy a box and play. I may go the “build up” route if I move forward on it. But I’m also really into KT, so right now I’d almost rather keep developing my collection that way.
