Absolutely positively read the last few pages of the WWII rule book here --
www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/w...-rulebook-en-web.pdf
It provides scoring rules, aces rules, scenarios, etc. May not be your thing, but definitely worth five minutes of your time and that's likely all it will take.

I love Wings of War and it's simple game but a lot of depth can be added. The designer: one of the nicest designers on BGG has made a lot of extra rules.
For example the ace rules for a more campaign like feel: here
Optional rules (a lot of fun ones, one that adds a lot is the ammo rules, this makes things far more realistic since most ww1 pilots didn't take all shots, just the shots they could make at close range behind a target OR deflection rules): here
Then it's up to you to pick a Jasta or Squadron and make a campaign roster: taken from Red Baron the PC game: possible missions are:
- escort mission
- balloon buster mission
- stop bombers/reconnainsance aircraft
- balloon defense mission
- scramble mission
- dogfight mission (an ace challenges you to a 1 on 1 dogfight)

Hmmm...I like the way these ace skills are laid out, but my understanding is that the WWI game is based on actual pilots and the cards represent their abilities with their plane, whereas the WWII game is more about the machine. Is this correct? I mean, would adding ace skills on top of WWI pilot decks be overkill?
Anyone here try using Ace Rules with WWI? If there's going to be a future expansion to the WWI do you think they'd add ace skills,or again, would it go against the spirit of the WWI game with it's 'named' planes?
Thanks!
EDIT: Just saw LilRed's post and links. In! Thanks!

You could try to get a copy of DAWN PATROL and then use the campaign and pilot development system from that game with the combat system of WINGS OF WAR. Would work just fine I guess. DAWN PATROL is something like a WWI air combat RPG. Maybe you can find a scan of the rules online.

One other tip: if you interested in the more advanced Wings of War stuff you might consider joining the
WoW Group on Yahoo
. They have a lot of good stuff! For example a time line helping you at which date airplanes were issued to the frontlines. And they have a lot of homebrew campaignrules etc etc. If you can't be arsed to join but still would like the files just tell me (I don't know if they are there at BGG the files system is a bitch to browse through)

@Jack Hooligan
Since you have a GW pedigree, have you considered AERONAUTICA IMPERIALIS from Forge World? It seems like an advanced WoW set in the 40k millieu. I think it looks pretty cool and it doesnt require large amounts of miniatures. Of course it is more expnsive than WoW and will require assembly and painting of the minis...
