Anybody here "attending" GenCon Online? How did things go?

I am moderately tech-savvy, but have discovered this year that I am not really into online the playing of rpgs, board games, or card games. I wasn't originally planning on going to GenCon this year, but not having to travel suddenly made it a possibility. But I looked at the pricing of events and there seemed to be two basic types: short $2 game demo events and longer $80 games. A few $80 games would still be a great bargain compared to the time and cost of traveling to GenCon and staying at a hotel, but my previous online gaming experiences indicate that I can't get $80 worth of fun out of an online format.

I never even looked at what or how they were offering it. I can play board games online without Gen Con's help, and if I don't get to stomp around downtown Indy, I'm not interested.

I’ve watched some of the free stuff, like the publisher’s announcements and bits of game demos.

They're going to be revealing a chronicle of a bunch of games of Oath, which might be fun for me.

I've played 5 RPGs - 2 Call of Cthulhu, 2 Starfinder, and a Torg Eternity. They were either $2 or $4, and all but one were 4-6 hours. Not sure why you see them as $80, unless that's all that's left with tickets.

It was my mistake to just check the events once early on, when all the pricing seemed to be either really cheap or really expensive. I also found that the search capability of the event list was pretty limited. I should have checked back later, after more events were posted. So I ended up blowing off GenCon Online and focusing on yardwork over the weekend. On Saturday, I did wear my "I'd Rather Be at GenCon" shirt that my girlfriend gave me a while back.

Just read an interesting article about the virtual convention season:

icv2.com/articles/columns/view/46536/win...onths-virtual-events

Nothing specific about GenCon or gaming, but plenty about other activities commonly taking place at gaming conventions.
