Results of the big ol' Fall 2015 math trade.

Out:
  • Lagoon
  • Drakon 4th Ed.
  • Dungeon Roll
  • The Duke
  • Diskworld: Ankh-Morpork (second copy, ran out of patience on a resale)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization

In:
  • Warhammer: Diskwars
  • Smash Up (kids wanted it)
  • Onirim 2nd ed
  • Battleball
  • Tannhauser
  • Jamaica

Time to hunt down clearance Tannhauser stuff.

That's a great swap. I've had Diskwars for nearly a year and haven't broken it out. Need to at some point.

Tannhauser didn't go over well in these parts, even with the revised rulebook and the (very necessary) add-on equipment reference cards .

Hopefully you'll have a better experience than we did.

I am hopefully going to trade Politika for something -- fingers crossed I can unload that piece of shit.

I fucking ADORE Tannhauser. Played the piss out of it for a year. Then, almost like the Tesla coil had exploded, I couldn't get anyone to even look at the box anymore. I think we overdid it. We used to be bad about that.

There's another copy in the leftovers math trade that includes the revised rulebook and the equipment cards. After seeing what those cards cost on the aftermarket, I think I'll try for it. Not likely, but worth a shot.

I accidentally got sent Siege of Orgun. The company fixed my order and told me to keep it, so it's on the trade block.

Traded Summoner Wars: Guild Dwarves vs Cave Goblins for Tomb: Cryptmaster. I quite like Summoner Wars but I've got some weird feeling that Tomb might be a better game for me. We'll see...

Also got Beowulf: the Legend for Olympos that was lying unpacked in my basement for over a year.

I really love Tannhauser - I think it's a direct competitor to Earth Reborn and it does what Earth Reborn does both prettier and better. My main bitch is the way it implements dice, kind of "crunchy". The cards are a MUST MUST MUST.

PETE'S TRADE OF THE WEEK:
Out:
Defenders of the Realm + 2 card expansions
Catacombs (1st Ed) + all expansions

In:
Cthulhu Wars

Nuff said.

Tannhauser doesn't belong in the same zip code as Earth Reborn.

It feels like a more fully featured skirmish game in the vein of... Skirmish mode in IA. I sort of wish FFG had designed a dedicated skirmish game with that IP and used this system; and they could still call it a mini's game and continue their usual mini-pack expansions etc. The LOS system is great (though I'm guessing it's problematic for the color blind).

In other trade news:

Got rid of a couple of Pathfinder Adventure Card Game packs for Duel at Mt. Skullzfyre.

Depends. The first edition rules sucked ass. Totally agree. The revised rules, however, were bad ass. Way better than ER. ER has some distinct advantages, but if you weigh all the factors, the fact is that I can play 2 full missions in Tannhauser before I'd have been done setting up ER. Plus, it's way prettier, and the movement/firing circles are a brilliant idea.

I can play Love Letter 6 times before you play Tannhauser once.

Edit - Also, I think it's funny that you compare Tannhauser and Earth Reborn - which don't share a single mechanic in the specific sense, not one, but you don't think Cthulhu Wars and Chaos in the Old World are related at all. Mr. Ruth, you're out to lunch.

For the record I think Tannhauser is a fine game and a lot of fun, it's just not the nearly flawless Earth Reborn.

For you to say that they don't share a single specific mechanic means that you don't know shit about Tannhauser, or are being intentionally argumentative to hold upon high your favorite game of the genre.

In any event, you're wrong on a level I can't begin to explain.

I'm apparently not alone in the comparison.

I'll just leave this here:
