A Trade of Games -- The F:AT Arms Trade, Part VI

More
12 May 2011 21:36 - 12 May 2011 21:51 #96234 by jeb

The crow took to the air, cawing. Not that, it shrieked at him. Forget that, you do not need it now, put it aside, trade it away. It landed on Bran's shoulder, and pecked at him, and the shining golden face was gone.
Bran was packing faster than ever. The grey mists howled around him as he plunged games into the box below. "What are you doing to me?" he asked the crow, tearful.
Teaching you how to trade.
"I can't trade!"
You're trading right now.
"I'm failing!!"
Every trade begins with a fail, the crow said. Look down.
"I'm afraid..."
LOOK DOWN, and hey, while we're at it, let's work on duplicate protection.

I wrote all the boring parts of this, but Matt Loter really prettied this up.

This thread runs a "math trade"--a computer assisted algorithm to determine the best possible combination of trades so everyone ends up with games they want, even if not trading one-to-one. People will submit cryptically formatted lists to me that I submit to Lord Eddard Stark who does with them as he will.

An example would be:

Matt WANTS a tray of Maker’s Mark and HAS Reef Encounter
Barnes WANTS Reef Encounter and HAS a lot of shitty opinions
Uba WANTS a lot of shitty opinions and HAS a tray of Maker’s Mark

Lord Stark is of the old line, and is fair and just. He will let me know that I should send my Reef Encounter to Barnes. Barnes will send his shitty opinions to Uba. Uba will send a tray of Maker’s Mark to Matt. Everyone ends up happy. Except all the rest of us who have to read Barnes’ opinions.

House Stark assures good peoples that are new to these kind of trades that you can't get something back that you don't actually want, and want specifically for that item. If no one offers anything you want, just don't submit a want list for that item--it will not be traded away.

+++++ RULES +++++

You can post games you are willing to trade away immediately. To do so, in your FIRST reply to this thread: Enter your name, your location, how much shipping you are willing to cover and your games and their condition. You can edit this reply until the "closed for submission" time to add more games, but once I add the game to the master list in this post, YOU CANNOT REMOVE IT until the trades are finalized. If you remove an item after it has been added to the list... justice will be done and that right swift.

e.g.
GAMES FOR TRADE: Jeb Adams, 91301 USA – I’ll cover the first $10 to ship everywhere.
• DUNE – FFG 20112 edition. New in shrink!

• Gherkin Jerkin – Hans im Gluck. Very rare import. Well played lover’s copy.

The closed for submission time is May 23rd 11 am EST

Want lists for each item you've added to the list are due by May 25th 3 pm EST

Feel free to submit want lists early. All want lists are to be PMed to my account here (jeb).

This isn't a no shipping trade. All of Westeros is invited as is right. Please state your shipping status in your Games For Trade post. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Shipping is a big deal. If you live in New York, and you put a game from beyond the Wall on your Want List, BE PREPARED TO PAY FOR A SUBSTANTIAL CHUNK OF THE COST OF HAVING GAMES SHIPPED TO YOU. If someone offers "free shipping globally!" they are going to pay a frigging fortune shipping games--that's their prerogative. On the other hand, you cannot opt out of shipping internationally. You should set an upper bound on what you're willing to spend, and chase the recipient for the extra you'll need to get it to her. (Another way to look at it: You will pay for having games shipped to you, but many games come with a cash bonus to offset the shipping cost. )

I am the ultimate arbiter of any disputes. By signing up some games here, you are submitting to this rule. I don't care if you don't like my decision. Don’t be the first jackass to get added to the bad trader list. IT IS A STAIN ON YOUR HOUSE.

When adding games for trade, you must describe the condition of the game, and note if anything is missing. If not noted, the game will assumed to be complete and in good condition. Also note if the game is not an English language edition. Please verify that you actually have possession of the game before adding a game to this list for trade. Seriously. Go to your garage and look at the game. Maybe rats ate some pieces or something. TAKE A LOOK. If it's a video game, note what system it's for and whether or not you have the box and manual and so forth. Lean towards being more informative rather than less. LORD OF THE RINGS is not super helpful, for example. The Knizia boardgame? Some flavor of video game? A nice set of the books?

Please use the following format for your Want Lists:

(FAT_Username) Your_Game_Number : Game_wanted_#1 Game_wanted_#2 Game_wanted_#3 &c.
A possible list might look like this:

(jeb) 1 : 14 18 19
(jeb) 11 : 14 18 19 22 26 7
(jeb) 12 : 14
(jeb) 16 :

This means I have four games to trade away: 1, 11, 12 and 16. My game 16 is very dear to me and there was nothing I wanted to trade for. Oh well. Game 12 I could part with for game 14. Game 1 could go for Game 14, 18, or 19. And Game 11 I want to move along, so I'll take any of the six games listed for it.

TradeMaximizer 1.4 will help us through this winter with the following options…

LINEAR-PRIORITIES: Use the 1,2,3,4,... priority scheme.
SMALL-STEP=1: Adjust how priorities change between successive entries in a want list. (The default value is 1.)
BIG-STEP=9: Adjust how priorities change for each semicolon in a want list. (The default value is 9.)
REQUIRE-COLONS: Make colons mandatory for every want list.
REQUIRE-USERNAMES: Make usernames mandatory for every want list.
ITERATIONS=100: If set to a number larger than 1, then use randomization to find num different solutions, keeping the solution with the best sum-of-squares metric. Note that all of the solutions will have the same number of trades and the same total cost.
ALLOW-DUMMIES: Allow users to include dummy items to protect against getting duplicates.

There have been some questions about how to best use dummy items to protect against getting duplicate items. Here is a tome of knowledge from the Trade Maximiser wiki page…

Warning: Spoiler!

If you have any questions about any aspect of the trade, please let me know and I'll try to answer them quickly. And remember this: Winter is Coming. Also remember to mutter your gibberish in the blog:( here ), not in this thread!

Make sure to be aggressive with those lists, or Matt Loter will question your personhood.

Replied by jeb on topic Re: A Trade of Games -- RESULTS
-- RESULTS --

Fantastic job, everyone. Amazing. Eddard Stark would allllllmost crack a proud smile at our performance. This can be a little hard to parse, but you should be able to find your name section below, note which game numbers you are sending out, and to whom.

Get in touch with the people you are SENDING TO and RECEIVING FROM. Use PMs to start off, but I STRONGLY recommend moving the address exchanges and so forth to email and/or the BGG Trade screen --it makes the bookkeeping easier. Ask your recipients about what shipping vendor they prefer--some are better than others for various reasons. If they don't care, that doesn't mean you can slap some tape on there and ship it out. Send your games in a timely manner. Send your games well packed. Send it with TRACKING. It's worth it.

Please recall that I am the ultimate arbiter of disputes. I hope everyone is cool, but if you send something without tracking and it doesn't show up--I'm going to make you pay for a replacement and/or send it again. TRACKING TRACKING TRACKING. Feel free to take your chances, it's up to you. Insurance is worth considering.

If you are sending internationally, plan on spending a little extra time on the paperwork. You are sending a GIFT, its nominal value is $1. This keeps your recipient from getting super-humped by import taxes.

In sum, DON'T BE A DICK.

GAMES FOR TRADE: Jeb Adams, straight outta 91301 (SoCal!) I will pay for shipping domestically. I'll do the first $12 internationally.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING LOT -- A stack of Legacy/Vintage decent stuff. I'm not playing the game anymore, really. My value on these has dropped commensurately. Here's the list, conditions and other stuff (foil, signed, foreign) noted . I'll thrown in other stuff that came in under a dollar like Impulse, Unearth, Crystal Vein, &c. It just depends what size box I grab.) You'll definitely be getting Mishra's Factories, a Skullclamp, 2 Erayo's, a grip of Lightning Greaves, and rarities from Portal like Hunting Cheetah, Plant Elemental, and Jungle Lion. I'll be taking stuff in the $20 range for this, people, get upon it.

MYTHOS: Excellent CCG that stands out in the crowd of spell wrangling dudes. This is a big box of hundreds of cards, mostly from Miskatonic University/Chtluhu Rising expansions. Also has the Standard Ed cards and some New Aeon and a bunch of Dreamlands cards. Plenty of cards for numerous decent decks.

GAMECUBE BUNDLE (GC / Wii) -- Pick three! Everything boxed, might be missing some manuals, I'd have to check. These will work with your Wii, but you need to have a GC controller and a save... cartridge? Thing? That chunky fucker.
  • MARIO GOLF: TOADSTOOL TOUR
  • GLADIUS
  • HULK: ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION
  • BALDUR'S GATE: DARK ALLIANCE
  • SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE
  • X-MEN LEGENDS

WII BUNDLE -- Pick three! Everything complete.
  • METROID PRIME 3: CORRUPTION
  • OPOONA
  • ZACK & WIKI
  • EXCITEBOTS TRICK RACING
  • WARIOLAND: SHAKE IT

DS BUNDLE -- Pick four!
  • THE DARK SPIRE
  • LOCK'S QUEST
  • METEOS, TRAUMA CENTER: UNDER THE KNIFE
  • AGE OF EMPIRES (THE AGE OF KINGS)
  • BRAIN AGE2
  • RETRO GAME CHALLENGE
  • HENRY HATSWORTH IN THE PUZZLING ADVENTURE

BAYONETTA (XBox 360) -- Complete(d). Very pretty game. Best in-game orgasms in any 3rd person beat-em up.

XBox 360 Bundle: All complete, with manuals.
DEADLY PROMONITION (Xbox 360) -- Underrated TWIN PEAKS game. It's basically TWIN PEAKS, in game form.
MASS EFFECT (XBox 360) -- HAVE YOU HEARD OF THIS ONE?
PANZER DRAGOON ORTA -- Original Xbox game, plays fine though on the 360. Rail shooter.

DOOM: THE BOARDGAME -- Tossed the insert, which was worthless anyway. It's disorganized in there. I'll be sure in inventory and update.

PENNY ARCADE CARD GAME -- This is the UFS version (OG!) of the game. It's the same as the newer FFG version, with UFS cardbacks. I'll throw in EIGHT (8) starter decks worth of UFS cards from STREET FIGHTER 2 and SOUL CALIBUR 3. They are mixed, but all there. **UPDATE** It's 8 extra starters, not ten. Check those games, folks!

PANZER BLITZ -- box is a little worn, not surprising given the age. Little mini plano box inside organizes everything at the cost of not meeting the AH Bookcase size anymore (it rides high). I will toss in SIROCCO.

CONFLICT OF HEROES: AWAKENING THE BEAR -- Very pretty wargame, excellent intro to hex-and-chit gaming. The counters are huge and notoriously gorgeous. This one I will miss.

MANEOUVRE -- GMT games, gorgeous. Never played. It really is a lot like CHESS. So much so that I would rather just play that.

FEUDAL -- Kinda beat looking 3M Bookshelf box, but the insides are intact and amazingly pristine. Another I'd rather just play CHESS game.

BUY LOW & SELL HIGH -- Knizia game with pretty components. Very Knizia though. Fun until it's not. You could set up, teach, and play with everyone happy in 30 minutes though, so there's that.

STREETCAR -- Not what I thought it was. Would love a crayon rail game to replace this.

BLUE LINE HOCKEY -- 3M Sports line. Gorgeous condition.

PUZZLE STRIKE -- Confused edition, Pink box (2nd Ed?) but wooden chips and insert (1st Ed?) The chips are printed upon directly and a little muddy. Comes with canvas bags. GREAT game. I am trading this one away and upgrading myself to 2nd Ed chips. **UPDATE** The wooden edition was a limited edition only sent directly to people that ordered from Sirlin himself. There you go.

I'll cover the first $15 shipping from Annapolis, MD. If you land to or more games from me I'll cover the first $30.

The goods:

The Omega Virus -- used, fully functional (including electronics), very good condition inside, box shows significant shelfwear. I'll throw in a copy of Miserian Wars, a small run labor-of-love game that is much better than it looks once you figure out how to stick it to your opponents. I have two copies, one can be yours.

Tales of the Arabian Nights -- played a couple times, like new.

Cleopatra and the Society of Architects -- still shrink wrapped.

Duel in the Dark -- ultra clean, like new.

Maharajah -- Brittania's sister, this is the Avalon Hill Edition unpunched and remarkably clean except for a bit of tape on each side of the box. I'll throw in the issue of The General that covers the game.

Arkham Horror -- played two or three times, punched, but like new. Giftable new.

Battlestar Galactica -- Same as Arkham. Very clean.

Beowulf The Legend -- Because somebody had to start it off.

Conquest of Pangea plus the expansion -- Like new never played.

Richthofen's War -- Very good condition considering its age.

Panzer General Allied Assault -- Excellent condition.

Monster Mayhem -- Don't trade for this. Very bad game. Excellent condition, never played, and for good reason. It sounds good, but really, it's not. You'll regret trading for this. I may be willing to trade as low as a pack of Twizzlers for this game, and I'll have the better half of the deal. I'd have thrown it in with one of the other games but I didn't want to sour the deal. Just not worth your time. In fact I'm concerned you're still reading this. I'll think less of you if you trade for this game, and I'll voice that opinion in public forums.

Advanced Squad Leader: 2 Winter Offensive Bonus Packs (2010 and 2011) -- You won't be able to sleep tonight knowing that you're missing two ASL modules. This is both bonus packs from their annual convention, still in the original packaging. Don't miss out on your French Toast and Bacon.

S.

I'll try out this mathematical trade thingy...

Name: AARON TUBB
Location: 27526 NC

I'll cover the first $10 of shipping to ANYWHERE in the UNIVERSE.

HAVE FO TRADE:

BANG! - used, but good condition.

AIR & ARMOR - 1986 wargame by WEG. The box is worn and has some marker scribbled on it or something. I picked it up used and it has some counter trays, but I'll have to see if all the counters are there.

Rise and Decline of the Third Reich - Got it used and I never finished reading the rules.

THURN & TAXIS: POWER AND GLORY - expansion only, plus printed rules for T&T, since you can actually play the expansion without the base game if you have some generic colored pieces (e.g. Pandemic cubes or RISK pieces). Played once or twice, one corner of the box top is split, but in otherwise great condition. (box corner split when my toddler tried to help me put the game away after I counted to make sure all the pieces were there; not because of general wear on the box)

PC strategy game lot: Civilization IV, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords, Neverwinter Nights: Diamond, Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, and UFO: Aftershock. They have all been played, but include their original boxes, manuals, and whatever else they came with (fold-out tech tree poster for CIV).

DOOM: the boardgame + DOOM: the boardgame EXPANSION set - Has not been played very much, so very good condition. Box insert thrown out and everything bagged. Have both boxes, but everything is in the base game box right now (it's a very tight fit).

TWILIGHT IMPERIUM (second edition) - Used but good condition, everything bagged.

COMBAT COMMANDER: EUROPE - Played just a few times. Over half of the counters are still unpunched. The rest are in little bags.

I can cover $15 of shipping from Lenexa, KS (66219).

Warrior Knights - New FFG version, no expansion. In very good condition.

Probably will post more later, after I go home and ask some hard questions...

*Edit* Added later, per Jeb's request...

Red November - This is the first printing, in the little Silver Line box. The pieces are in very good condition, although the yellow gnome needed to be glued at one point. One corner of the box is split, but otherwise it all looks good.

Mu and More- Trick-taking game, along with rules for four other games in the box. This is the smaller version, about the size of Tichu's box. In great condition.

Catan Card Game - This is a fantastic game, but I'd like to upgrade to the Rivals of Catan. It's been played some, but its in great condition. This is the edition that is post-2007, but pre-Rivals.

Mmmm...I can't really do this as there is NO postal service in Kuwait that I would trust bar FedEx and they are diabolically expensive to US or Europe...no one sane would pay the cost.

Hence, I HAVE money and I WANT games on peoples lists. Anything that can be done???

It is easy to get games to me, I have a courier company in NY and I pay the courier cost but they only send one way (to me)...
