Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome: Nemo's War vs. Zulus on the Ramparts

This week I decided to pick games from Ancient_of_MuMu because he had a number of unique games on his unplayed game list.

Top card - Solo games from Victory Point Games:
Nemo's War
vs.
Zulus on the Ramparts

Undercard - Newer Math Trade Stuff:
Prophecy
Mission Red Planet
O Zoo Le Mio

Robin Hood Undercard: (See Ancient_of_MuMu's next post)
Legend of Robin Hood
Legends of Robin Hood

Whatever is picked on the main card will get played this weekend as I have a long weekend away this weekend. I will do my best for the undercard too, but given they require other's cooperation it may be a touch trickier. Acquire should be on the undercard too, which was also a recent acquisition in the same trade.

Also which Robin hood do you mean?

I have both unplayed (although I suspect I did play the lesser one 20 years ago).

I haven't played anything on the top card so I won't vote on that.

For the Undercard I can easily give that to Mission: Red Planet. It's a great game that combines Citadels and El Grande with a nice steampunk motif. It's probably best best with 4 or 5, but I even get a kick out of it with 3. It has all of the typical Faidutti's ingredients: chaos, role selection and plenty of chances to screw over other people. Just a really fun design from Faidutti.

Legend of Robin Hood is great; Legends of Robin Hood, not so much

Nemo for the win. It's the only solo game worth playing other than "spank the monkey"

Which you can get from Zevs Games for sale thread for $3.

Haven't played any of those games, though for the Undercard I'd vote ZooSim because it's cwali.

I vote Mission Red Planet. It's fun. It's fast. You get to blow up rocket ships and kill everyone on board.

The Zoo game is stupid and boring. Prophacy is okay, as long as you play for shots.

People are just voting for Nemo because they haven't played Zulus. You can't go wrong with either; pick the one that stirs your imagination the most. Zulus, Nemo, and Hero of Weehauken are the best solo games from VPG, hands down.

Nemo for the win as well. A good trade for me. How can you not give the nod to a game that attempts to faithfully re-create classic literature.

Undercard: Tough one. If you like Talisman, you'll like Prophecy better. I know I sold Talisman once I had Prophecy and I'm quite happy with that decision. But, if you don't dig Talisman, Mission Red Planet. Got that last year from KingPut and quite glad I did. Awesome fun. Shellie's spot on with her analysis lol

I'm surprised at the very positive Mission Red Planet comments. My impression from reviews was that it's an average Euro with too little control and too much chaos. What makes it so good?

It's a lot of fun. There's a lot of "take that", the art is really good, it has a really tense end-game, and it's a lot of fun.

The guys whose reports you're seeing must be reading are the "perfect information, no luck" types that go a little ape shit when their toast comes out slightly browner than expected.

Don't recall whose comments I read, here or elsewhere, when it came out. Must have been a few years ago. It just left a total non-impression on me, i.e. so bland it's not even bad.

I like Mission: Red Planet. It isn't an awesome game, but it is worth a try if you own it. It's certainly more fun than the Zoo auction game.

I never really liked Prophecy. The endgame in the original is over long. The changes to fix it in the Z-Man version made it shorter, but unsatisfying. Also, I think the designer went overboard in "solving" the "Talisman no control over movement" complaint. Towards the end of the game, players can get to the point where they can pretty much move to any space they want, which leads to AP and over thinking what is essentially a pretty light throw-dice-and-kill-stuff game.
