Deck Building F:AT Final 4

Ascension and Nightfall.

I've never played Nightfall, but it can't be any worse than Dominion. I am at PrezCon with week and I am sure I will see some fool stagger in with all 142 expansions, take a half hour to determine which cards to use, find them, spend about 30 minutes playing the game, and another 30 putting it away.

Thunderdome was supposed to be "Two men enter, one man leaves," but Master Blaster was two dudes working together.

Trashdome is now Trash Madness.

The thing about Dominion is it has a lot of variety. in any given Expansion (aside from Intrigue) There are only maybe 25% of the cards that I find are interesting to play with, but given the number of expansions, and the nature of the game's setup, that's a TON of interesting gameplay.

Of course since to get that 25% you gotta buy the other 75% of village variants and militia variants, so I'm in no way interested in owning it, and I probably don't even want to play it f2f, but Playing Dominion on Isotropic is great. If it had an app produced at an Ascension level I would love it.

Ascension

Puzzle Strike is basically a carbon copy of Dominion but less well balanced. Yep, it turns out that purples needing an action to play sucks out a lot of the fun and introduces a degenerate default strategy. On the other hand Ascension isn't perfect either, but at least they tried to do something different and interesting.


Dominion

Discounting the shitty theme, Dominion is really the best game here. I have played games where I can draw through my deck every turn, culminating in a mega-turn where I buy 5 Provinces in one shot - and then there are games where I struggle to buy enough Estates to end the game and win on Gardens. There was this one time I trashed my wife's deck whole with the KC/Masquerade lock. Another time I Chapel'ed down to a five card deck, Island'ing my Provinces because I was hiding from Theives. Dominion produces emergent gameplay that can vary wildly depending on what's in play. As much as I like Nightfall, I don't really need another game which is another variation on attacking for two damage.

Oh, and both Puzzle Strike and Nightfall have multiplayer problems because of the way they count VPs. Puzzle Strike has seat order issues; Nightfall becomes a game of politics and whining. Not necessarily a game breaker (since you don't *have* to do multiplayer), but there it is.

Haven't played PS or NF and don't like Dominion or Ascension. I'm writing in a vote for Resident Evil because while it may not be as good a game as some of these I actually have fun when playing it.
