Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

TRASHDOME: Non-Gamers or Random Gamers?

I have generally had good experiences with Random gamers but my vote goes to Non-Gamers.
I like the challenge of introducing a non gamer to a hobby game and then the slam dunk when they say where can I buy this game?

VOTE: Non-Gamers

You're talking about The Adventurers, and it's out of print. But you're right -- pull out the right game and you can have a great time with non-gamers.

I'm in on Non-Gamers (in case none of you had figured that out yet).

Funny you should say that particular game...I just got the painted mini pack for that game a short while ago, despite buying it at GenCon the day it came out!

generally RANDOM GAMERS. Just because I want to play with people who are as likely to enjoy the game as possible, which usually leads to better attitudes anyway.

So by that same token, I am also as picky as possible even when dealing with said random gamers, and try to screen and filter out types I don't want to play with: I'll never try and cram a good Ameritrash game down a Europhile's throat, or try and bust out Cosmic Encounter with a group of socially awkward randoms. I like to get a sense for what type of game would be mutually enjoyable for both myself and the random gamers, and if there is no match, then so be it -- I'll sit out and try to join or wait for a different group.

Also playing with randoms is just a great way to find new cool people to play with long-term. I've been very pleasantly surprised many times.

In the end I'd rather play with someone that I enjoy playing with than someone who enjoys playing

This depends very heavily on what I'm playing. As a rule I would rather play with friends, but I'm not really one to do a lot of gaming with people who aren't already into it. But then there are games that I would never play with random people ever, mostly heavy Euro stuff that becomes interminable with a bad group. Then again I've had a lot of rough experiences trying to teach non-gamers how to play some games I thought were pretty straightforward, like say King of Tokyo. And playing with random people does allow you to make some new friends.

But I think in the end gaming is a social pursuit, and if I had to choose between a table of non-gamer friends and a table full of gaming strangers, well there's no choice. I've done both, and friends win that contest.

NON-GAMERS.

Mostly because I know what I'm in for, can be myself, and 99% of the time will enjoy the game and the company. The odds are much much lower for my game group, depending on what rando with socialization issues decides to show up. And there are lots of them in these groups, it seems. I generally consider myself a good ice-breaker and some of these folks are just a real challenge to relate to, making the game less pleasant and interesting. Try playing Codenames or Dixit with one of these guys and you will want to drive an ice pick through your own skull. When it's not a socialization issue, it's a matter of taste, which I have more dictatorial control over in my own domain. People won't be walking through my door with a copy of Trivial Pursuit: SNL Edition, Fluxx, Alibi, or whatever other godawful title they found via Wil Wheaton.

So, yeah, I'll take non-gamers (and the ensuing game selection restrictions) over the 1d6 roll for dudes with spectrum disorders and/or really bad taste in games.

Ok, sure, Non-Gamers are kicking ass here and it makes perfect sense. No random dude is going to be as cool as my buddy that I have history with.

But it's not the gamer part... it's the random part..

Random gamer vs. Random people - ?? gamers aren't so bad all of a sudden.

Sorry, something about voting one group of people as better than another rubs me the wrong way. I'll game with anyone who sits at the table with me.
