Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome! BB:TM vs Rune Age

Both titles look to weigh about the same...not just physically but in time and complexity. They both have deckbuilding as a key mechanic as well as both hitting the street in 2011.

So which one are you still playing? Which game better matches its setting? Which one is a flat out better game?

I'm still playing both because both are great games. I think the nod for theme/setting match has to go to Blood Bowl, since it's more distinctive than the relatively generic fantasy setting of Rune Age/Terrinoth, but also because the game mechanics tend to highlight that theme moreso than Rune Age (Tackling, injuring, cheating, etc.) I think Rune Age is more interactive as a deckbuilder (i.e. you're not just playing against the cards on the table, but against each other) depending on scenario, but in a straight comparison, I'd probably give the "better' edge to Blood Bowl. There's something slightly more synergistic about the mechanics and the game as a whole that just make it work. That said, I'll continue to play both for many years (although it's generally frowned upon for me to play the Uthuk in our games of Rune Age, since I win a lot with them...)

Hmm, I think Blood Bowl Team Manager is actually quite a bit longer than Rune Age. I've never had a 3+ player game of BBTM that was less than like 90 minutes whereas RuneAge with same player counts is more like 45. Not that you can't compare them anyway.

Both are good, but I'd rather play Blood Bowl Team Manager. The races in the latest expansion are fun.

Rune Age. Team Manager suuuucks.*

* This opinion has nothing to do with the fact that I can't seem to win that stupid game. Nothing!

This is a tough call. I've only played BB two or three times but I enjoyed it immensely. Rune Age I've played a lot and it's an incredible game.

I think when it comes to game you get for the dollar you pay there is no question that Rune Age is the winner, but then again, very few games offer that much for the price. It's an oddity in that regard.

The last time I played BB:TM we had all the expansions throw in and that makes it a much bigger game than Rune Age. It's also a little bit longer.

BB:TM doesn't use deck building that much. It's there, but it's not like Rune Age where it's entirely central to the game.

If I didn't have either one I would probably just buy Rune Age, it's less money and it does more. But I'm not sure that any one of it's games are actually better than the one game that is Blood Bowl Team Manager. They're almost equal. But Rune Age does give me that DoaM feeling with cards and I love that kind of direct combat and that kind of aggression. I'd vote for that simply because I prefer the theme of Rune Age (NOT the setting though).

Vote: Rune Age - barely though and kind of half heart-ed.

Rune Age left me completely empty, theme wise. BBTM was entertaining at least. Neither game really grabs my attention, but BBTM because Rune Age was a snooze.

Dr. Dealgood would never even let Rune Age into TrashDome.

Well, this was definitely an underwhelming Trashdome.

Looks like it was BB:TM with 4 to Rune Age with 2.

But nobody cared.

We still play BB:TM, in fact the latest expansion is still fairly recent! But Rune Age never really interested me, I'm not that much into card games. The only "scenario" (there are 4, right?) that seemed fun to me was that DOAM one.

I'm guessing a lot of us haven't played either of them!
