Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

TRASHDOME: 20$ BOURBON EDITION

Four Roses vs Evan Williams 1873 SB vs ?

Rules:
1. If you refer to Jim Beam or Old Crow, you are disqualified.
2. One bourbon only, Vasily.

The wife and I were debating which bourbon is the best “table bourbon”. She is a Four Roses gal, and I am tempted to agree, but EW 1873 Small Batch seems better.

I present my bona fides:

Evan Williams.

For $6 more you can get better stuff, and for $16 more shit gets real.

The EW is a good choice, or Dickel #12 is right on the edge of $20 (depending on where you are). Dickel #12 might be disqualified as a "Tennessee Whiskey", but fucking whatever.

I'm generally willing to go up to $30 for "house bourbon", and Eagle Rare is the best I've found in that price point. Punches up with the $50 bottles.

I don't do a ton of bourbon. I like Buffalo Trace and Elijah Craig, though it know those are above this price range iirc

I'm not sure what you mean by "table bourbon." Four Roses is more accessible for people who aren't big bourbon drinkers - it's smooth and sweet and mixes well in most traditional sweet bourbon drinks. EW is more complicated.

For an inexpensive all purpose bourbon, I vote for Eagle Rare.

You guys are killing me!

I drink Rabbit Hole (the best I’ve ever had, including Pappy Van Winkle) for special occasions, Eagle Rare for 24$ (as a KY resident we get cheap prices) but I was shooting for something 20$ or under.

The whole premise is “what is the best bourbon (Not American, Scotch, Canadian...) for under 20$. We were discussing the merits of cheaper booze and we kind of got stuck on a 20$ price point.

Buffalo Trace... although its really a $30. But its way better than those so it wins.

The problem is, I've had lots of bourbon, and only 2 or 3 have fit that price point. None of them are in my house. I'm too spoiled by the good stuff, and it was that way from the start.

I guess that's why you don't buy your 16 year old kid a Lexus.

I’ve had around 160 bourbons at this point and maybe 20 of them are in this arena, the 20-25$ mark.

I have a list going...

We have G&W bourbon in the wells at two of our bars. Comes in at around $9 a liter if you buy it by the case. I'm a bit of a snoot, and wouldn't drink it on the rocks, but it's just fine for mixing or shooting. Heaven Hill runs you another buck, maybe two a liter and is far superior to to the standard Four Roses. At the risk of disqualification, I've got to say that Jim Beam is easily the best bourbon in this price range.

Vote: Jameson's Irish. Nothing in the whole wide whiskey world touches it in terms of value for money.

The only "cheap" Bourbon I drink is Jack Daniels. I do rather like that hint of maple. I have no idea how much it costs in the states, but over here you won't get anything remotely drinkable for the local equivalent of $16.

(Of course, JD isn't actually Bourbon, is it? It's "Tennesse Whiskey")

I think the merits of cheaper booze are summed up as:

  • It's cheaper

The merits of cheap booze is that you can have open bar at your parties without killing your wallet.

I had forgotten about HH, Jay. That is a good choice.

Jim Beam...fuck those guys. They sold out to the Japanese. That’s like selling Apple Pie to the Japanese. ;)

If you want to expand this, yeah, Jameson is the best affordable whiskey, IMHO. I also like American whiskeys like Bernhards but this new Midnight Moon is damned fine for 25$
