× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - Runebound vs Return Of The Heroes

WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting on it. End your first post in this thread with the title of the game you're placing a bet on (i.e. voting for) so its clear to me when reading it later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. The winning game may return for future matches, the loser will be dead. Counting expansions or not is entirely up to you just as playing with them or not is. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Runebound. It's a fucking SNES RPG, and I love it.

I really like both. But there is no contest here. Expansions upon expansions, solo rules, and the FFG stamp.

RuneBound!

Haven't played either so I should just be in the crowd, cheering for blood as cardboard gets ripped apart and plastic melts in the heat of battle .... but I'll probably vote for the one Octavian doesn't, 'cos that will be the best as he has fucking poor taste.

Runebound by a fucking mile. RotH can't compete as Runebound buries it under the weight of its expansions.

I've never played Runebound, or really wanted to that much, but this makes me want to. How does it feel like a SNES RPG? Does combat present you with a choice of Attack/Magic/Item/Run? Or is there a cool cartoony overwold map, presented at a birds-eye angle with wonderful mode-7 technology?

I vote Runebound. Only because set up is easier and the rules make sense.

I'm going to go with ROTH.

Runebound has the better systems, but the random encoutner card deck makes the game feel too much like a glorified Munchkin.

"I crawl through the swamps and across the mountain. To fight....a wandering monster."

FRANK BRANHAM AND I STAND UNITED. It's ROTH, all the way.

RUNEBOUND is crap. I guess it's pretty good if you like watching some roll a d20 over and over and over and over again.

It also doesn't have the fabled Porno Hobbit.

FAIL. I'm guessing you've only played 1st edition; it's now 2d10.

Runebound all the way. I played RotH (and Prophecy) once, and don't remember a damn thing about it.

(Bars Frank Branham from going after Dave)

Easy now Frank...Dave, don't bring PROPHECY into this. Please.

I also love SNES RPGs, but have never played Runebound. Please elaborate.

Got it. I've kept my copies of RotH and Prophecy, waiting for English expansions.

To be clear: My vote was for the systems, not the base games. The Runebound base game is pretty suck-ass, but mainly because of the movement dice and lack of interesting things to do. I enjoy all of the expansions (not counting the ones that just add market or adventure cards).

The only aspect where Runebound is better is the combat system, which is more interesting and with more decisions, but the rest of the game is just not that good. I'm not such a big fan of games where you move and get a random encounter. At least in Arkham horror the encounters do make sense with the location you get them at....

Return tries to create a more open-ended world in the style of Magic Realm and although it only half succeeds (it is still a race game), the quest/task system gives sense to all the travelling and the game does feel more like your own adventure. Runebound feels like the same adventure in a different order... No original storytelling possible, and little replayability (unless you get the expansions).

RETURN OF THE HEROES
