Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - Descent VS Twilight Imperium 3rd

I like Descent, I actually got in a bit of it at the WBC with Will K. Its a good game but it doesn't offer me much more than Doom does at the cost of a lot more time.

TI3 on the other hand is the BEST FUCKING GAME IN PRINT.

This is totally going to blow your minds!

You can make your own Descent character! And you've been able to for over a year!

That is really cool, I'll defintely look into this again when we play next, thanks for the info. Still it's a pretty small set of choices you have and nothing like an actual RPG at all... far, far too simple but defintely very cool for a boardgame. Descent is awesome... it's just no TI3.

The problem is the same type of problem I have with a point buy system in D&D. Every character ends up a little too similar. Instead of point buy we use a system where you still roll, because we love rolling up characters, but it has to fall into a point range... say 32-50, that way you don't end up with an insanely over/under powered character when it's all said and done but there is some variability.

Of course it's not as in-depth as an RPG. But still, it's something not a lot of people are aware of.

As for points vs. rolls. RPG characters should ALWAYS be rolled. There should be as much randomization as possible. Look at WFRP! You can even randomize your looks and name. Awesome.

I haven't played TI3's expansion but it seemed to me that TI3 added a bunch of crap that got in the way of the good 4x game that TI2 was.

Twilight Imperium

Descent may be a great game, but why play a limited D&D scenario with restricted options when you can do so much more by role-playing to begin with?

Someone's probably going to shoot me for this, but I really prefer HeroQuest over Descent for that type of dungeon crawling game. I haven't yet played RTL which could completely change my mind about it, but right now I'd rather play HQ or my rpg when I'm in the mood for either a dungeon crawl or a rpg.

Ditto. HeroQuest plays quicker, is more interesting and comes with a built-in campaign system. My single play of Descent took four hours and we got through two rooms.

I haven't played TI3, so:
