Trashdome - Talisman VS Runebound

This is probably the biggest case of people voting on nostalgia and/or brandname that I've yet seen in Trashdome. Either that or you really are a bunch of Barnes-groupies that go along with whatever he says.

Where are the Runebound fans? (Do they even exist?)

I don't think (most) people here are saying Talisman is the be all end all of gaming, but Runebound is a steaming turd.

Sorry, Barnes. Runebound's been played more often now than Talisman in my house. Hell, I bought the new version of Talisman, for old time's sake, but I haven't even played it.

The whole "you only like it because of nostalgia" thing is annoying. I'm sure some people will vote for nostalgia because they don't think much of either game, but TALISMAN is (in spite of what some "discerning" gamers on BGG may opine) an awesome game. Just because a game is over 15 years old, that doesn't mean anyone who likes it only likes it because of nostalgia.

Any feelings of nostalgia only add to the awesomeness of this already great game. I guess you could say that I'm nostalgic for a time when games were fun and highly dramatic, and elegant mechanics or arbitrary balancing mechanisms didn't get in the way of the feel of the game. I guess I'm also nostalgic for the last time I actually played Talisman, which was about a month ago.

The flip side of the nostalgia argument is that some people automatically favor newer games, just because they are newer.

Um...a big part of the AT movement _is_ nostalgia, by the way.

True, but it's not just nostalgia. We like _quality_ too.

The haters pull that "nostalgia" thing out any time TALISMAN comes up for some reason...but you're right, quality is key too, and the reason I'm nostalgic for TALISMAN is that it's a quality game.

RUNEBOUND, the only nostalgia I feel for that one was the last time I played it and we swept the components into the box, not even bothering to sort everything at.
