Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - RoboRally VS Wiz-War

Havent played Wiz-War....

Roborally sucks:

If you play according to the rules
If you have dull friends
If you always complain about stupid AI in shooters
If you are too smart to enjoy a game
If you forget to make a hella noise when you finish some robot by accident but claim it was all part of your ingenious plan of devious rotation.

Vote: ROBORALLY

RoboRally is an okay game, but usually overstays its welcome. If you stick to a small board layout that isn't overly complicated, it will be reasonably fun. Some people are better than others at thinking spatially, so it's fun watching the less-skilled sometimes drop into pits. Keep things light and moving and don't play with AP-types. It's interesting to note that Richard Garfield pitched this game to Wizards of the Coast way back in '91 and they turned it down, but asked him if he had anything else. He did, and that other game, Magic: the Gathering, was a huge hit. Even then, some years passed before RoboRally ever got published.

Wiz-War is a very good game, but may occasionally run really long. The base set is solid, but some of the expansion cards were bad ideas, and can lead to weird rules discussions. Still, the card combos are fun, and I enjoy the odd tactical challenges that arise. Overall, it's a classic, and I look forward to playing again soon. And speaking of Richard Garfield, he has acknowledged Wiz-War (and Cosmic Encounter) as two major influences on his design of Magic: the Gathering.

Vote: Wiz-War.

Haven't played Wiz-War (sounds like I really need to) but I thought Roborally was fun in a chaotic kind of way and it generated a lot of laughs and cheers.

RoboRally almost always provides a good time. It was one of the first games I bought and almost everybody I introduce it to buys their own copy.

Voting for Wiz-War DOES NOT COMPUTE.

Voting for Wiz-War DOES NOT COMPUTE.

Are you trying to defeat my trashdome aimbots with that statement?

If I want a ton of predetermined move wacky crazy fun I'll chose Space Alert for that now. Roborally needs to go to its retirement home.

For some reason when I first read that I thought it said, "I'd better go hide my penis."

RoboRally

I don't see the analysis paralysis, probably because my edition has a timer. ;) I have yet to play Wiz-War though.

Seems like a lot of the Roborally votes say "I haven't played Wiz-War so, .... uh, RoboRally!"

The "out-of-print for fifteen years" status of this game is always going to be a liability in a Trashdome. However, doubters need to track down a copy or sharpen up their PnP skills. It is the shit. Top three game for me, easily, right up there with Cosmic Encounter.

Chessex, I hate you.

I voted for R-R 'cos I own it and think it's great - if it had been crappy then I wouldn't have voted, and if it had been dire then I would have voted for W-W :-)

The "out-of-print for fifteen years" status of this game is always going to be a liability in a Trashdome.

All old games have this problem ... and new games as well (Middle Earth Quest as an example) ... but if could only throw rocks in the Dome if you had played both then a lot of Domes would have single figure scores.

Wiz-War is a nicer alliteration than Robo Rally.

Vote: Wiz-War

... or else Avery's minis don't get melted.
