Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome 2 - Sands Of Al-Kalim VS Frozen Wastes

WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

Doing another expansion vs expansion fight. I don't expect it'll see much action with all the Runebound haters on this site not having a horse in this race, but I'm genuinely curious to hear which of these people prefer. I've only played Sands and think its a fantastic expansion that adds some really great stuff to the game.

I really enjoy Sands with 2, but have had real problems in a 3 player game.

Vote: Frozen Wastes

Interesting. I've only played Sands with 2. Actually I haven't played Runebound with more than 2 since first edition. It just works best as a 2-player game for me.

It is great as a 2 player. I have played the Giant expansion with more players and it worked okay (the scoring for giants at the end was okay). The problem we had was some players were forbidden from attacking certain creature types and it effectively put them out of the game before we'd gotten to blue encounters.

It happened in the only game of Sands I've played with more than 2 players. Maybe it was just a really bad shuffle of green and yellow decks. Don't know, but having the game crash like that when trying to teach a new player wasn't fun.

Vote: Sands

Both attempt to solve my biggest problem with the base game, which is the frustration of the movement dice. But Frozen Wastes introduces its own problems with the introduction of Frost, which forces you to run back and town every now and then unless you are able to pick up pelts from adventures. Frozen adds in a bunch of subsystems which are cute enough in isolation but add up to a big headache, and Runebound is stressful enough already. If I wasn't such a damn completist, I would get rid of Frozen Wastes. Sands, on the other hand, remains the best way to play the game.

Ohh, didn't see this.

vote: sands

I like both, but I handed it to sands for feeling more revolutionary at the time. Wastes kind of continues along after sands.
I really like the design of the Waste map though.

I was pleasantly surprised by Frozen Wastes--I wasn't pleased with the concept of it before I played it--but it takes a back seat to Sands.

Vote: Sands of Al-Kalim

I usually play with a house rule that you can trade in three move dice for a 'wild' move die to keep move from bogging down too badly. Would that make a difference in either sands or wastes?

Vote: Sands, for the same reasons Skeletor already mentioned.

In the market step in Sands you can buy Camel tokens for 1 gold that you can discard during movement to move one space in any direction. Your house rule would negate the need for that.
