× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - War Of The Ring VS Space Hulk

WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting on it. End your first post in this thread with the title of the game you're placing a bet on (i.e. voting for) so its clear to me when reading it later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. Counting expansions or not is entirely up to you just as playing with them or not is. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

I am awed, as I never knew a single Trashdome could contain so much awesome. Which game is the most awesome? I think it will take some time before I can finally and arbitrarily select one as the most awesome.

WAR OF THE RING

I was actually excited to get Space Hulk when it was re-released last year, but after a few gaming sessions it got pretty stale. Sure it was exciting, some of the best game endings I've ever experienced, but overall the game felt too simple for me.

War of the Ring on the other hand is a true classic, my favorite game of all time. I wish more people around here played it.

I have a strong history of voting on the wrong side of these, so apologize in advance to the fans of Space Hulk here, as my vote is for Space Hulk.

As Barnes' says, any game worth being punched in the face for has to be good. And given this is trashdome, that seems to be the perfect reason for siding with the Hulk.

I have too many complaints about the original version of War of the Ring, especially those tiny cards with the squint print. And while War of the Ring appears to offer a lot of choices, players are inexorably channeled towards the same standard strategies each game. I suppose a given Space Hulk mission is equally focused, but at least there are a dozen different missions. And the components are nearly perfect in Space Hulk, just some assembly required. And ultimately, I remain bored of the rings, though I still retain a great fondness for the Alien movies.

Vote: Space Hulk.

War of the Ring is #1 on my Games to Play list, but I've never had the chance. I have however played Space Hulk a few times, and it's a might fine game itself.

So, vote goes to game played.

I've played and love both games, but I think I'd have to go with War of the Ring for two reasons. First of all, I'm a much bigger fan of the Tolkien universe than the 40K universe. Secondly, the enormous nature of War of the Ring makes it feel like a special event, almost like a board game holiday. I've also played it more and generally gotten more out of it at this point. I imagine if I owned Space Hulk, it'd probably get played more, but I don't, so I will go with...

War of the Ring.

Second hand Aliens is better then first hand Tolkein. I hate LOTR (the movies are o.k.) so obviously I'll vote for an awesome game and stick it to Frodo simultaneaously.

I gotta go Space Hulk. A tight game on such a short set of rules. Tough choice though.

War of the Ring is THE game for me, I think. Yes, I love Here I Stand and Twilight Struggle--but War of the Ring has that cinematic theme that infuses everything in the game while still allowing alternative history to unfold. My kids got this for my birthday when it came out and my (then) 8 year old son spent a whole day walking through the rules and then playing it with me. So it not only has the "real" flavor and strategy but my sentimental vote as well.

War of the Ring doesn't have power swords, librarians and piles of skulls.
