Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - Fury Of Dracula VS Castle Ravenloft

Fury of Dracula

Love the Halloween-themed trashdomes we've been getting, btw.

FoD is something special, unique. Ravenloft may be cool but it is ultimately Just Another Simplified Dungeon Crawl.

First thing I thought. I never played CR and know little about it. Even if it were the best of its kind, I think I'm okay with the perfectly fine several of its kind that I already own and enjoy.

Vote: Fury of Dracula

I'll add my 2 cents. I love Castle Ravenloft. It's the game I've wanted since I was 10 and lucky for me, I've never grown up. It's incredibly fun and so simple you can teach it to anyone.

FoD has a big rulebook. I owned the game once because it just sounds so fucking cool. But ultimately the rules are just too much and found myself saying "fuck this". If I want to read a textbook, I'll go to school.

Vote: Castle fucking Ravenloft

Let's see... an all-time classic versus the flavor-of-the-month circa September 2010. I choose the all-time classic, the attractive, thematic, challenging battle of wits that is Fury of Dracula.

Well now I know why Heroscape came with a basic rulebook.

RAVENLOFT is great but it's two months old. FURY Of DRACULA is one of the immortal classics of AT. It is one of the greatest games ever published, up there with DUNE and MAGICAL ATHELETE.

THere really isn't a contest here.`

How about "Descent vs Castle Ravenloft" - I can use it to confirm my "wankers" list.

Castle Dracula?

Always wanted to play FoD but still haven't got around to picking it up. I'm in no position to vote on this one...

You'll have to bring Fury of Dracula down for Thanksgiving so you watch me kick myself for selling my copy.

I just want to point out that this may actually be the list used to revoke F:AT passes. I was admonished in the "Cyclades: Your own iliad in 2 hours" blog for trading Fury of Dracula, and now this comes up.

Anyone (besides Loter) who voted for Ravenloft may be getting your pink slip in the mail!

LOL

I'm voting Fury of Dracula. I own Ravenloft but it took so long to punch all that shit out that I didn't have time to play it. At least Fury of Dracula is "fuckawesome"....so we're going to have to vote with that.

I dunno.

As much as FoD is lauded here, I'm not sure I'd prefer it over CR. Now, I'm not a super fan of CR, but CR provides a consistent experience.

FoD, on the other hand, not only requires players that have several plays under their belt, but even than can provide hit or miss sessions. At this point in my life, I'm not into spending 2-4 hours on what could be a dud.

I've owned, painted and sold GW and FFG versions of FoD, and have yet to regret those decisions.

I think it was said best about FoD sometime ago (in the vs LNoE thread?). FoD is a great game to admire, but maybe not so much to play.
