Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome suggestions thread

I'm putting up this thread so that people can post suggestions for Trashdome in a central place that's easy to find for them and me. It's not that I have no ideas myself, but your input will help me from veering off too much on my own track.

And somehow I feel the need to explain to you why I do the 'domes I do. Call it searching for a mandate or accountability.

I tried out Friedrich vs Napoleon's Triumph because I felt there is a pretty significant group here that plays wargames. Now it may be a bit smaller than in the early days, or these games are too new, or too much off the beaten track to have garnered gameplay. It didn't attract as many votes as I hoped, although it wasn't as bad as Schweig feared. And not every Trashdome needs 10 pages to be good.

To keep Trashdome fresh, I'm trying not to come up with the same games always. Mix classics with games a few years old so people have a number of plays in, as well as the latest hotness. Hardcore Ameritrash mixed with (light) wargames and hybrids and the occassional Euro.

The response to Konieczka vs Wilson was above expectations, and I think it offers a few more options to keep Trashdome from going stale. The biggest trap is of course to do the 'different' stuff all the time.

I hope you like my take on Trashdome. Let me know either way.

I like the new Trashdome. Unfortunately, I don't know if I can think of any cool match-ups (or at least matchups that would promote discussion).

Boardgames vs Videogames?

Lord of the Rings vs Star Wars?

generic fantasy vs generic space opera sci-fi?

Miniature wargames vs card games?

Dice combat vs card combat?

There's also the two all-time champs of previous Trashdomes:

TWILIGHT IMPERIUM 3rd ed vs ARKHAM HORROR

One that would go well is: 1980's Games Workshop vs 2000's Fantasy Flight Games

Mayfair Cosmic Encounter vs EON Cosmic Encounter

Sag vs MattDP as content writers

Warhammer 40K vs Heroscape

Heroquest vs Thunder Road

I have no recollection of what we've done before, so some of these suggestions would probably be repeats.

C&C:A vs Memoir '44

Richard III vs Hammer of the Scots

D&D Adventure System vs DungeonQuest

Shogun vs Wallenstein

Washington's War vs Hannibal: RvC

Conquest of the Empire vs Struggle of Empires

Railways of the World vs (whatever the latest incarnation of Steam is)

WH40k vs WHFB

Conflict of Heroes series vs Combat Commander series

Pitchcar vs Crockinole

Cyclades vs Mare Nostrum

Ticket to Ride version A vs Ticket to Ride version B (or an all v all match)

Some great suggestions here, and I think most of them haven't been done before (although many games have featured in other Trashdomes.

I've been thinking of a few grand melees rather than 1on1 trashdomes. I had in mind a trashdome of the CDGs and one on civilisation games. I think in both cases the top contenders will be clear, but between those top contenders it will be a big battle. So it could be a two tiered trashdome: first a list of nominaties of which the best 3 or 4 go through to the finals.

Maybe separate the two- and multiplayer CDGs.

Or do you think that it should really be pairs?

I think that Konieczka vs Wilson, Lego vs Playmobil, and NT vs Friedrich were both really good, creative, matchups.

My suggestions:

card sleeves vs. 'naked' cards
expansion boxes vs. putting 'em all in the base game's box
Space Hulk vs. Earth Reborn
Batman vs. Spider-man
PS3 vs. XBox 360
cards vs. dice

You're doing a fine job, Jur!

I like the ones that are easier to get a big base of voters with like the one with FFG designers, because even if you've only played a game of each you can feel good about voting. When it's 1 game vs the other game - I feel weird voting if I havent played both.

Thus my suggestions are for broader matchups:
adventure games vs dungeon crawls
fantasy vs sci fi (or LotR vs SW as listed above even)
tactical vs strategic (or army control vs squad control - I'm thinking A&A vs Memoir)

EDIT: OOOH- the ultimate schoolyard rivalry for me was SEGA vs NINTENDO!

I would stick with pairs for the most part, but some broader matches would be a very welcome change.

PS3 vs Xbox360 would be a total waste cuz you'd only have like 2-3 people capable of giving an objective opinion. The rest is fanboy clutter.

Move vs Kinect or Wii vs Kinect would be better but we've already talked about it plenty
