Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)
Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.
This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.
Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;
Two games enter! One game leaves!
Trashdome: Cyclades vs Mare Nostrum (closes July 3rd)

Much as I hate to disagree with someone that voted for the winning game alongside me, he's wrong. That crash ending to Mare Nostrum will happen once, and once only, and 90% of the time it'll be the player controlling Egypt winning (appropriately enough) by building the pyramids. Once everyone has seen how easy it is to collect 13 tax cards they'll be watching Egypt like a hawk in future games to make sure it doesn't happen again. And in any case, that's how my first game of MN ended and it was still so jaw-droppingly brilliant that we set it up again right away for another game, in spite of it being 2am on a weeknight.
This is probably good time to pimp my review of MN:

just because a game scales well to lesser number of players, doesn't mean its better. sure, its a point in its favor.
as for the end-game, each time i've played, I have had new players (only a played a handful of times so far) so we do have to warn them about egypt and the pyramids, also have to warn them about not focusing to much on attacking one player. (usually explaining that rome's most obvious target is greece..but that greece is a great balancer against babylon/egypt in the east.)
I don't think you need to be an exper' on the game to have a great time with it. a small amount of coaching or experience will allow you to really enjoy it. The influence each role has on the game is alittle deeper and understanding that comes with playing a couple times. explaining to a new player how the master of commerce can greatly control the flow of resources can be difficult.
so far we've been playing with the "pyramids = 2 wonders" houserule, just to prevent the surprise ending.

Haven't played Mare Nostrum, but I know that I have really enjoyed the games that I have played of Cyclades.

Has prettier bits, and plenty of great gameplay.
I'm not crazy about Mare Nostrum's shit-ton of set collection. Anyone bitching about bidding in Cyclades while giving the set collection a pass, well...

Cyclades I've only played a handful of times and MN not at all, so my vote is one against Cyclades rather than for MN.
I just found Cyclades restrictive and gamey. It didn't have the freedom to do what I want I expect a DoaM game to have.
