I started painting on Sunday and I now have ONE ship almost finished. Crap this is taking a long time.

My biggest problem is that I usually paint several minis at the same time. However, you have to paint before completely assembling the ships. I'm to afraid that I will get parts mixed up. I think I need to figure out a system of how to have seveal ships in the assmebly/painting line, without mixing up or losing the loose peices.

Don't know if you've already separated the parts from the sprues, but I have a couple friends who paint stuff while it's still attached, both for ease of access (turning the sprue over rather than a tiny part or small mini) and to forestall losing something or getting it mixed up.

I'm not sure how I was going to approach it. I may just throw up my hands and put everything together and paint from there. It takes more patience to try to get paint inside portholes and whatnot, but at least they'll be built and I can perhaps get in a game or two...

I still have them all on their sprues. That's what is making it slow. The sprues are marked but the individual parts aren't, so I'm only cutting out and painting the parts for one ship at a time so that the bits don't get mixed up.

I did cut out and mark the bases, since they were large enough to write on their underside. The Spawn has been painting those.

Hi, my name is Steve and I'm trying to get this goddamned game pained too.

I've got all the islands done and looking sexy. I've started the Skabrus but I'm not thrilled so I think it needs more work.

I honestly just do 2 ships at time. Ive got the Kraken setup to paint, but that one scares me.

I started with the Heldenhammer. All those f*cking little cannons.

I've got mine shopped out. My buddy who bought it for me is painting two, and some other guys I game with that are mutual friends all have two a piece. I have a game with no ships, it's slightly terrifying. I have all the extraneous stuff to paint myself but I'm still mid Earth Reborn so nothing has happened at all.

I was hoping to start them this month but that's looking more unlikely now so I guess I have to change my hopes to April... assuming my friends get theirs done as well and I'm uncomfortable asking them since it's so nice of them to do it in the first place. Plus they are all way better painters then I am and two of them are actually quite good, like win competitions good, so I don't dare screw that up. Patience.

Uba or anyone else who's painted these...Any opinions on whether it's ok to put together the ships and other components before painting them? I want to play the game one of these days, but I'm afraid fully assembled pieces might be difficult to paint.

That's part of what we've been talking about. GW recommended painting them prior to assembly because of all the tiny details on the underhulls and so on. Uba has already started painting hers on the sprues, which is probably what I'm going to end up doing.

I haven't painted yet...plan to someday. But I know that someday will be still years away (honestly if ever). So what I did was take a pin-vice drill and expanded/drilled the holes where everything fits together. So my models stay together without glue (and no masts in most cases) but can still be taken apart when I decide to paint them.
