Just got in some Veer-Myn from Deadzone...going to paint them purple and green with grayish fur. I also have a TON of Mantic terrain now that I've got to paint up. I've never painted buildings, actually. Any protips?

Don't sweat it. Spray if you can. Keep it simple with accent. Choose two good colors, for example, slightly dark gray and bright orange. Spray gray, highlight with drybrushing. To keep things simple and look good, make sure the basecoat solid, no matter how worn you want the final look.
Use the orange on certain stripes/panels only. Use bright metallics on certain dots, details, piping, and bright blue/red on lamps.
On weathering, two tips. First, washes if you like the rust/dingy/grimy look. Otherwise, pick foam (dishwashing foam works great), pluck in black paint, wipe them off, and then dab it to the corners of your terrain to simulate chipped paint. Use in moderation, it's easy to overdo this. You can use combination of washes & foam dab. Or just keep 'em clean.
Finally, go online and get poster/propaganda/newspaper pictures. Print them in small size, cut, and stick them on your terrain. Futuristic monitor screens, keypads, etc works also. Billboards & neon signs. Trust me, this will liven up your scenery. Don't forget to seal them.
Use cheap paint (but not too cheap). I usually use wall latex paint. You probably only need 1 or 2 color.

Oh man, about a decade back I made a Gangs of Mega City One board, and did this with 2000ad covers. I'd also glue a few squares underneath them with a little white stuck out two sides. Glued the whole thing to the ground and it looked like 2000ad magazines were laying out in the street. I also printed of some old school metal and punk album covers in rectangles and glued these on the walls. They looked like band posters. Both of these added a lot of color and character to what could have been plain walls.
not mine, but here's an example:
and some ready made signs:

I also did some spray paint on walls and in the street based on this dude, UMW, in the old Mongoose forums back in '05. He'd do letters in dark blue, then lighter blue in the middle to give a wet/dry edge graffiti look. It was really neat so I copied it for 'Chopper','I fought the Law', that sort of thing. I wish I could find some examples, but nothing after 15mins. Not even in the wayback....

I primed a bunch of it dark gray and did just what you said- orange, white and blue highlights. I ordered a larger brush to drybrush it and I have some "OK" craft paint to use.
Latex? That kind of scares me.
That's actually Mantic buildings in Jeff's picture. Mine is about ten steps away from looking like that though. I have some ruins by them too, going to experiment with rust on them.

Image is on my hard drive, and looks just fine. I upload it through the forum directly, into the post (not hosted elsewhere) and every time, it orients it incorrectly.

The Mantic stuff is really neat. You can do the catwalks/bridges and all of that. The Deadzone core box comes with enough ruins scenery and some scatter stuff for the 2x2 mat, but of course I'm a psycho so I wanted more. Looking around I found a great deal (Chaosorc) for two sets of the OLD Deadzone scenery upgrade kit- exact same sprues as the new "urban district" set they have. I was pretty stunned by how much you get for about $28, and it's right-sized for 40k too. One thing I really like about Deadzone is that the terrain issue is so easy to manage, and you don't need a 6x4 table or anything like that.
But there are a couple of caveats. One is that they don't give you enough connectors. I used them conservatively and still ran out. I've got enough walls and floors to make 4-5 more cubes but I have nothing to stick them together. Oh, and the "clip together" bullet point? Total bullshit. You've got to glue it. It's also quite difficult to build some structures, mainly because the connectors don't always fit right. And it is really built for grid-based games, so it has a naturally blocky, square look that isn't very realistic in some settings.

Maybe we should do a photo/image specific thread?

Too bad we're such a small community as I also like seeing historical minis as well.
