I'd probably just rely on washes to do the scars. But then I rely on washes for everything :)

yeah, but my technique is to go back with the base color after the wash. In these case, it means going through all those little spaces between the scars. My brush situation doesn't allow for that much control nor that even of a spread. It's looking sort of splotchy

I'll throw up a pic later in the week when I have time to take one. I may have to be creative to make the model look decent.

Don't nobody like those damn scars!

Really, the way to do that is kind of counter-intuitive. I think. Because washes aren't erally going to do it. You want to just cover the groove with White Scar. Then, do Guilliman Blue (glaze) in it. Maybe drybrush a lighter blue around the edges to give them the glow effect (something like Etherium Blue maybe?) Then you touch up around the edges with the base skin color.

I dunno, mine look like garbage too. It's a difficult thing to get right because it's a light recess on a dark color.

Looks like you went lighter on the skin that what is proscribed.

Is that a Balewind Vortex?

It is a Balewind. Used as a wild terrain piece though. Like that vortex in Skirmish scenario 4 (i think it is).

And you described far more steps than I'm willing to take on the model. :/

Flamme Rouge finally showed up on my doorstep recently, after ordering it in June (because Australia). Have nearly finished the bikes, and now just prepping the riders for priming. These guys don't have traditional bases, so I was really struggling to find a means of getting every part of them covered and painted in the one go. In the end, I took a leaf out of Vlad the Impaler's book...

I'm not familiar with this game. Is it cool?

Well, there are no dice in the box, so that disqualifies it from being "cool". Despite that, it's quintessentially a roll-n-move racing game, but with each rider having their own deck of movement cards in place of the traditional dice. Some clever (and very thematic) rules around slipstreaming and managing your riders' ever-dwindling energy reserves (aka the aforementioned deck). Definitely looking forward to playing it with the family.

my reaper kits will arrive soon, so hope to share some disaster pics shortly

I read somewhere that you SHOULD in fact prime the Reaper Bones, and theres all kinds of bother with tackiness if you varnish the figures after painting. I also have not found anywhere local thats even heard of, never mind "Testors Dullcote"

I would always prime everything you paint. As far as finishing goes, I love Testors Dullcote but it can eat the paint away if you don’t put another sealer on first. I always start with Citadel ‘ardcoat before applying the Testors.

I'm going army green with my AM. I'm happy with this scheme, so on to assembly line painting Ugh. Do you think I should base before or after I paint?

For common dudes, I paint after everything, including basing. Just get some tuft or flocks to cover where you can't reach the ground during drybrushing. Just faster that way. And the primer helps seal the grit/sand if you use any.

I've tried painting the Reaper Bones stuff without priming and it hasn't gone so well. It was mostly just something for the kids to splash paint on but it doesn't stick very well.

The trick with Testors Dullcote is that the label on it actually says Testors Spray Lacquer and then on the lid you need to find the one that says matte or dullcote.
