It reminds me of Gloom of Kilforth, which is not a bad thing. I’ll definitely keep an eye on it, though I’m having the same initial worries that I had with 7th Continent, which caused me to wait until the second printing: will the translation be good (non-native writer)? Parking immersion to decypher awkward turns of phrase or just straight up poorly composed translations can be a buzz kill, especially in a narrative game.

After my one play of Nemo's War I went in on the expansion stuff. More the most part it's just more options of existing elements, though there are a few mechanical additions.

It closes tonight if anyone is interested.

OK, after jumping in on one fantasy board game I saw this pop up and that it was funded (£40,000) in minutes and when I hit the page still on the first day it was over a million. Had a good read and thought this is a game that I want to play ... so in for another, looks like I'll have a lot of new gaming in 2020:

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

www.kickstarter.com/projects/awakenrealm...l-the-fall-of-avalon

OK, I'm not a KSer person (only have done Kremlin and Space Cadets: Away Missions previously) so I don't really know what happens with stretch goals and how mad it goes ... BUT is this normal what's happening in Tainted Grail - they've already funded one complete extra campaign for the base game and now a second extra one is starting ?!!!
All this for £70.
And with the British Pound dropping at the moment you guys in the rest of teh world can get a cheaper buy here.

It's normal-ish with the big $100 games that go for multiple millions. People back because of the extreme value and little downside if you vette the publisher.

While I wouldn't say there's zero risk, this one seems low. Awaken Realms have already brought This War of Mine, Lords of Hellas, and the Edge: Dawnfall to market, and are in the process of delivering Nemesis. They have set a high bar for quality and if you dislike the game, it should be a very easy sell due to that extra content.

On the other hand, 25000 people are currently backing it so you shouldn't have a problem picking it up later if it turns out to actually be good...

Minus the one, probably, two extra campaigns you get with the KS ... as I found out when I missed the Sword & Sorcery one a year or so ago, and now those extra campaigns are available at retail but pretty pricey.

Tainted Grail (I'm sorry but that combination sounds like Arthurian porn) was the biggest KS of the year:

P500 is like a KS campaign where the publisher just forgets that you pledged like 3 years ago.

Edit: hah, I guess the “last post” link went wonky or the thread icon no longer pulls up the end of the thread. I’ll leave this here, though. I have a couple of P500 “pre-orders” with GMT that are listed in... inconsistent ways on the site. Card was never charged, so I don’t really care at this point. The games got at least one more print run, one of them flagged as “shipping” in my orders but no further information. When I emailed them using their customer service form built in 1998, there was predictably no response. I’m guessing you need to P500 at just the right time when it looks like a run may actually happen before your credit card expires, otherwise the order just goes in limbo somewhere. I remember there being a BGG list somewhere tracking all of this, since the GMT site is a disaster.

So Tainted Grail just finished and it is pretty big - 41,939 backers pledged £4,940,030 !
For £70 you get the game, two extra campaigns of content and a Steam key for the digital version they have also decided to release.
I'm going to have to keep my eye out on KSers in the future.

I put in $1 to get in on the pledge manager later. Too much noise & hype & too little time right now to make a coherent or informed pledge.

Wow... 42000 copies right off the bat. Do you realize that is like a traditional board game getting somewhere around 8 to 20 reprints?

It's insane.

Delivering that will be quite a chore.

One of the tiers should be limited and gets you a copy off the first container. That's an insane amount of material to ship. They'll need a warehouse.

There are centuries of Arthurian Legends, enough to fill an entire library. These stories are rich with compelling titles and place names and surnames.

“Tainted Grail” sounds like someone shitting themselves on camera for rent money.

I’m with you. I clicked on the Kickstarter when I saw it had an Arthurian setting. I turned right around when I saw it was a “dark” take.

First, is the story of England’s greatest king eventually felled by the betrayal of his wife and finest knight and murdered by his bastard son, born of incest not dark enough? As T.H. White wrote, that’s why Malory called his very long story Le Morte d’Arthur.

Second, why do we need a newly dark take? What’s wrong with stories of heroes who protect the weak and practice chivalry? I’m sick of this teenage nihilism that everyone and everything sucks and is the worst, that every story masks some agenda. Why do we need to dive into and roll in this muck when the news reflects so many acts of selfishness, fear and pettiness? Why don’t we seek something that points higher?

I watched a YouTube video not too long ago that argued the latest Robin Hood movie was going to fail because it was a revisionist take on a story that people don’t even really know except in broad outlines. A straight take on the legend hasn’t been tried in film since Prince of Thieves. Same can mostly be said of King Arthur.
