Black Mold

www.kickstarter.com/projects/tokenterrors/black-mold

Black Mold is just over $1K shy of funding with a little under two days left in the campaign. It's a semi-co-op dungeon crawly kinda thing with some pretty neat mechanics including the length of your turn depending on how long you can hold your breath! The deluxe version comes with a soundtrack on a cassette (!) with game enhancing components printed on it's insert. The art is somewhat reminiscent of Cave Evil but decidedly less sinister. Hope it funds!

ER seems like a hard thing to make into a fun boardgame... Like open world stuff in general I guess. I'm out either way because it's going to cost a billion dollars and that companies other from software board game was widely panned if memory serves, but still. I'm curious to see what they do with it I guess.

"fun board game" is probably not as big of a goal as "these minis are rad", which they can absolutely nail.

See also Dark Souls, the aforementioned not good game that had great minis

I am curious about the new Dark Souls core sets that are basically a 1.5 edition. They're supposed to eliminate some of the grind and fix many of the game's issues.

Steamforged gets a lot of disdain - well earned - but I do think they are capable of producing a hit. Godtear, Resident Evil 3, and Devil May Cry are all varying degrees of good to great.

Stay away from Horizon Zero Dawn and RE2 though.

They have released 2 design diaries already for Elden Ring. Sounds like the core box is two areas from the video game, with other areas in other boxes. And of course it is a campaign, which pretty much means there is no way this game will work for my meager group that manages to get together like 5 times a year anymore.

Dark Venture Second Edition is up: www.kickstarter.com/projects/960192600/d...hed_project_launched

A quick skim of the rules doesn't suggest any radical changes; certainly not the level of change I'd need to see to convince me to dive back in.

HOMM3 the board game is also up: www.kickstarter.com/projects/archonstudi...hed_project_launched

I think I'd be better served playing the video game again than buying this. Nostalgia is still a hell of a pitch.

The four things that I would need to see to be tempted to buy a new edition of Dark Venture:

1. Better card artwork.
2. Better recovery mechanism so that losing a combat won't necessarily cause you to lose multiple turns.
3. A better rulebook.
4. Revise the encounters so that their stat cards are all-inclusive and don't require you to search the deck for multiple equipment cards.

Even so, I'm glad that I bought first edition, even if it rarely hits the table, because it has such an exotic setting.

If you haven’t seen there is a reasonably priced upgrade kit for 1e if you wanted to try this out.

Digging out the equipment is such a drag, probably the biggest thing I’d like to see changed. I also think the competitive mode is dumb which if they dropped, they could have different colour card backs making the deck sorting easier between plays.

DV2e made me curious about how Battle of the Ancients ended up, I had forgotten about it. Turns out it hasn't fulfilled yet so it's hard to know. I guess it should be arriving in the US in the next week or so so not to much longer...

I love HoMM III, and the board game looks fun. I just know I'd never get anywhere near my money's worth. I think I'll just stick to the video game unless I stumble into a cheap copy.

Yeah, same here. The game does look neat though, and it hits a lot of nostalgia buttons. I still play the decent iOS app version on my iPad, and that will have to suffice.

Pledge levels announced ... going for the videogamer audience, who may not buy that many boardgames but will splash out for 'their' favourite, seems to be a good business these days - fair enough, I don't comment on people who spend hundreds/thousands on seeing concerts or sports games every year (or just alcohol), may be a bit too expensive for me especially once VAT and Shipping hits for the UK.
