It’s great to see recent entries in the DOAM style, such as this one, Cysmic and Aldarra. It felt like nobody was interested in doing anything new for a while.

1. I don't get in on campaigns that have "early bird" rewards. If your project is worth funding, it's because it's worth funding, not because I have a serious case of FOMO.

2. Hotseat is right in that the game basically looks like Nexus Ops and while there are many (many) ways to improve on that formula, the fact that its most striking feature was that it reminded everyone of a cult favorite game that's 20 years old doesn't really speak highly of the project as presented. Why would I pledge for this when I already own Nexus Ops or, in my case, have owned it twice and ended up getting rid of it both times because of its significant flaws? Maybe this game fixes those flaws but then why didn't I see more gameplay examples or rules or "variable player powers" to sell me on any of those possibilities? This whole thing looked like an attempt to sell a kitted out Nexus Ops with a huge hunk of plastic in the middle.

3. My experiences with Plaid Hat over the years have generally been underwhelming; most notable among them Summoner Wars. So perhaps their games just aren't for me but, again, I looked into this campaign and didn't really see any attempt to sell me on just how "cool" it was other than the big hunk of plastic which isn't really a draw for me. It was when I was a kid (see: Dark Tower) but not anymore.

Meanwhile: Hi, everyone. Life across the pond has settled to a point where I may be around here a bit more often. Still busy scripting, though.

Having watched part of the Dice Tower playthrough, I think my assessment was right, although with no dice it does play quite differently from Nexus Ops. Also technically I think has less unit types since you basically have a Shaman with special powers, and dudes. That's it. Keeps it simple, of course.

When I looked at the pledge, it was clear that it was a losing proposition to go in on it, since you'd spend more on freight than the "lower than retail" pledge amount.
