What KICKSTARTER(S) are you BACKING and WHY?
High Frontier 4 ... I own 3e and love it.
Pax Renaissance 2 ... I own 1e and love it.
I also have high hopes for Oath, maybe higher than warranted, idunno.

Looks like that fits with the estimated shipping charges on the KS of $15-$18.

True, but now I'm paying nearly $60 for what really looks like a $40 game.

Here's the thing -- I had $50 birthday money and went shopping on their site to see what was available. I usually avoid Kickstarters because I find them underdeveloped, but after finding about a dozen titles that looked interesting I did research and all but one were Kickstarters. They have become that pervasive at this point.
I went with Illimat because you all talk about how good Space-Biff's reviews are and he wrote a doozy for it. So I went for it and one of the baby expansions. With no shipping it only cost a couple of bucks more to have it delivered in hours from a local business.
Don't know if it's any good yet, haven't played.
At this point I've sort of surrendered. I need to stop avoiding Kickstarter titles, need to ignore the numeric rating and go after the written reviews of people that have clearly played the game a few times. Or just buy "ancient" games. It's just the nature of the business now.

HEL looks interesting but I'm not a big fan of Mythic Games. I offered a somewhat critical review of their last Kickstarter recently (Reichbusters), and they really screwed the pooch with their Joan of Arc game.

That was a concern for me, too many poor or meh remarks on their games by people whose comments I either trust or have similar tastes with. I'll be giving the rulebook a good read and if it reads well then checking if it is too similar to Oathsworn. Thanks for post.

The lead was nice because you could reposition. The pewter is brittle as hell.
