Yeah, fun stuff. Big fan of the 80's vibe on these types of songs. I was listening to a lot of Kavinsky and others for several years after the film Drive came out. My son calls these 'Hot Wheels songs'.
Been listening to the new Dirty River Boys album. Not sure how big a fan I am yet. It's taking more listens than their first album did. I'm thinking I enjoyed their more folk/outlaw americana rather than the rock leanings on a lot of these new tracks.
However, I do dig the lead off single 'Thought I'd Let You Know'. Sort of a raucous country tune sprinkled with Madness' 'Wings of a Dove' chorus. I wouldn't have guessed, but it seems to work here.

Yeah, I got on a Kavinsky rush after Drive as well.
Anybody buy (or obtain) the new Hozier album? I'm debating on picking it up. I like those guys quite a bit so far. I thought it was cool they did SNL already this early in their career. Their 2nd song choice was uninspired. They should have done From Eden or maybe Cherry Wine

It actually makes for great gaming music. Feels like a John Carpenter movie.

Just finished the new Slipknot album. I'm unsure. There are definitely some good songs, but nothing compares to Iowa or All Hope is Gone.

BTW, anyone who was into Weezer at any point in time should check out their new album, Everything Will Be Alright In the End. It's too bad they decided on "Back to the Shack" for the single, it's easily the weakest song out of the bunch. For the first time since Maladroit, I feel like I don't need to make excuses for liking something by them. Definitely my third favorite record by them, right after Pinkerton and Blue.

I loved their first album, might have been circumstantial though as I was in last year of high school, and for some reason I never picked up another Weezer album after that, though I heard most singles. Saw them at the Montebello Rockfest in June and they played pretty much every single, lots from Blue.
Here's what they played:
1.My Name Is Jonas
2.Hash Pipe
3.Perfect Situation
4.Troublemaker
5.Island in the Sun
6.Beverly Hills
7.Dope Nose
8.Surf Wax America
9.Say It Ain't So
10.(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To
11.Pork and Beans
12.Photograph
13.Song 2
(Blur cover)
Encore:
14.Undone - The Sweater Song
15.Buddy Holly
Because of stage proximity and accumulated delays throughout the day, Mastodon (my main attraction) were way late waiting for Weezer to finish. Still, the Mastodon crowd were singing along to Weezer as we knew all of those songs at the end. In a spur of ignorant incompetence, the main organizer even interrupted Mastodon mid-show around midnight to thank every for coming and what a great day it was. Fuck off dude. The Mastodon guys didn't look impressed at all. Sure you built a huge-ass hard rock/metal/punk festival in a tiny town (and that's another set of problems) out of nothing, but still, wait 'til they're done or something?

I've recently come across the absolutely marvelous The Vichy Government. A remarkably bile filled band.
This is also one of the finest uses of a Downfall parody I've seen.

Ex Hex - Rips
Mary Timony has decided to go after the 70s power pop sound, which isn't exactly a bad direction for her (certainly better than her mid-era ren faire music experiments). Not totally my thing, but makes for some pretty good background or driving music.
Aislers Set - Terrible Things Happen
One of my favorite bands of all time (they were soooo much better live than recorded) has miraculously found their way back onto my playlist. Go figure. Circa-2000ish indie/mod pop.
Derek and the Dominos - Layla Etc
I'm not much of a fan of blues-rock, and I certainly don't go in for the hero worship of Clapton, but damn, there's some amazing playing (both Duane and Eric, obviously) and songwriting all over this album. I guess that's what a big pile of coke, a roomful of phenomenal musicians and a month locked in the studio will get you. Oh yeah, I guess some talent is needed, too....

Got on Spotify and listened to Couldn't Stand the Weather and In Step by Stevie Ray Vaughn for the first time in years. Stellar music with its own sound. For years we used In Step on the way back in from boat races (my copy may still be on the boat in Belgium because it was more or less a permanent fixture in the CD player whose door didn't work very well.
Music and smells have the power to put you in a place in history. I'd be below folding and stacking gear when it played, and I'm so accustomed to working when In Step is playing that I got up and started working in the garage as I listened. Great music from great times.

I had never heard of Quantum Jump until about 30 minutes ago. This song just rocks, there's so many things I love about it... anyone here know these guys? Is the full album worth it?

holy fuck I'd forgotten how much better 'And Justice For All' sounds with the original bass in it.
the intro to Eye of the Beholder at 16:25 is a great help if you do have a few too many beers on a friday and find yourself having bother getting the old fella ready for action and the missus is getting impatient

I didn't realize how fucked up the bass was on "And Justice..." until you posted that. Just googled it.
