- There was a sense of warring militias and no easy ability map out your politics onto the movie
- I think the people in front of us expected White House Down and left the theater in a daze
- It was sort of a movie about war photographers
- Every famous photograph of a terrible atrocity in another country gets acted out in this film
- I woke up at 3:30 a.m. and had trouble getting back to sleep
- My son said that Children of Men is probably a better version movie about social collapse
- The movie has me thinking about the ways that feuding militias often precede a Civil War
- "The Portland Maoists"

I honestly had no interest in Civil War. At best, I thought it would be a dumb war movie. At worst, an idiotic fantasy like Red Dawn, glorifying the murdering of Americans because they think differently.
Seeing this video essay when it came out made me interested, made me think there is a real message there that is going to be missed by every stupid fuck who fantasizes about this happening.

In an act of self-abuse and procrastination, I started rewatching Bourne: Ultimatum, or The Blair Bourne Project last night before retiring. It got an 8 on IMDB. It was fun, but it was just a retelling of one of the earlier films. "I've brought down the secret program, and now I get to bring down the secret program *above* that program" and they brought back Julia Stiles so her and Matt Damon could stare at each other without talking, while simultaneously realizing that they are both too damaged to ever find love. The entire movie was shot by the same cinematographer used by The Office. I think the central tension of this version is that once or twice Jason Bourne decides to not kill someone. Oh, and we learn that he actually resisted his training but they broke him by using waterboarding, which was probably in the news when this came out.
Really, aren't we all forgetting our pasts, and wondering how we became what we are?

ChristopherMD wrote: Godzilla Minus One - I can't remember the last monster movie where I was rooting for the humans. Not that the big guy is any more of a menace than usual here. Its just far more of a character piece with a separate story to tell, set mostly in Tokyo just after WWII ends. Surely the best Godzilla movie ever made.
How did you see it?

I'm sure I could go fire up The Goonies, Explorers, or any number of kid centered 80's films and find similar "kid logic" plots that don't really make sense to an adult so it's probably an unfair criticism of the film, but it just isn't funny enough, zany enough, or interesting enough to hold my attention and the inconsistencies, particularly the ending, just don't cut it.
Still, there are worse ways to spend some time and $$$ and "the message", such as it is, seems to play better for kids.

Adult movies like Debbie Does Dallas?
