What was that house rule that your group used with The Gothic Game? Was it something like your character takes damage if you roll the dice without using the dice cup?

I believe the designer of the Gothic game is looking to re-release it. Wonder how he'll clean it up.

Other than adding in more cards, I don't see how the Gothic Game could be improved without losing its quirky identity. I suppose it would be nice to change the scale of the hitpoints and damage so that it can be tracked with tokens instead of a scoresheet. And miniatures are probably inevitable.

Had Photosynthesis show up at my house with a happy birthday note from Amazon yesterday (thank you very much whomever sent it if you're here). Three page rulebook, quite the chunky box. I'm looking forward to cracking it open at the May Getaway two weekends from now.

(All are invited to the May Getaway by the way. I've stopped advertising because no one has taken me up on it from here. Don't hesitate to reach out.)

Can anyone give me a quick review on this critter? It will be hitting the table next to Dune, TI3, Civ, other heavy hitters as a lighter alternative, I'd be interested to hear what people think.

I've only played it once, but I was surprised by how much of an abstract it is. There are opportunities to screw your neighbor, but they're usually far less effective than just improving your own position. It's also faster than you think it will be. I think it will make a good contrast to the meatier games you listed.

Drunk buy last night. Psycho Raiders and Freakface. I hope I don’t regret it. Also just rembered that I ordered some patio furniture. Yikes. Mules are dangerous.

I'm trying to buy 1870: Railroading across the Trans Mississippi because I like its balance between stock aand operation rounds but it's expensive and I'm having problems finding a copy :/

I bought that Civ New Dawn thing, as well as two new Neuroshima Hex armies. I'm behind on NH armies and need to catch up.

Is the new dawn one the super streamlined FFG redesign?

It is. I didn't get to play it yet, but I read the rules and it does some neat stuff.

You have a "Focus bar", numbered 1-5. You have 5 action cards of things like Science, Metalworking, Diplomacy or whatever. On your turn you choose an action card. The focus level where it is determines its power, with 5 being most powerful. Then it moves to the #1 slot and pushes everything else down. Eventually you can get upgrades to those cards which make them more powerful from the get-go. It's a really neat idea and I'm eager to see how it plays out.
