Feldherr foam trays? I’ve always wondered how they were.

I sent to Barnes & Nibble today hoping to get Blitz Bowl and expansion teams on cheapo clearance, but they were full price. It's worth checking your local B&N, BGG has a thread where people are getting Star Wars Outer Rim, Blitz Bowl, Abomination and tons of other stuff for like $10 a pop, but it's super ymmv. They did have a copy of Lost Ruins of Arnak though, which I've been looking out for since October when it immediately sold out it's first printing. So I bought that! I tend to enjoy CGE games, and the blend of worker placement and deck building in this one looks fun.

A place in town had a mostly unpunched great condition copy of Fields of Fire 2e on the cheap, so I bought that with trade credit. I'm not optimistic about actually learning and playing it, but for zero cash out of pocket I'll get a new shelf toad sure why not.

If you are comfortable making some rule calls, writing down to reference later, and rolling with play, the core loop of Fields of Fire is not that bad. Post around here, I've played a lot of it. There are a ton of squirrely sticky details that don't make that huge a difference but can suck up a lot of your time when you're playing if you dwell on getting them all correct. Just start on Normandy campaign 1, which is a nice small and limited battle. Be prepared to eat it pretty hard, though, mission one has you with all green soldiers for the most part and the enemy with elite paratroopers iirc. The enemy actually gets significantly easier as the campaign goes along.

If you really want to get out there and have your platoons lay down some fire on troops who aren't well defended, get out one of the Korean War scenarios. But those are bigger and more complex, usually, so I can't recommend it as a first cut.

Reminds me that I actually preordered the Bulge campaign pack because I'm a completionist. Wish this game had gotten someone who really wrangled all the great ideas in it into line, but it just never did. What is left is a very flawed masterpiece.

I ordered the new dungeon crawl module for Dungeon Degenerates. It uses the components from the base game, but takes place on a separate mini dungeon map and appears to be a ~40 page book of choose your own adventure/fighting fantasy paragraphs and encounters and stuff. I'm pretty excited about it, as the writing and lore for DD is consistently rad af.

I'm curious to hear how this turns out as it appears to be written by the author of Four Against Darkness.

Yep, I'd like to hear as well. I had a look on the goblinko website but it said little about it, then I checked their FB page and Katie had a short video where she showed it. It comes with a separate map and is indeed a book of paragraphs so I'll be interested in how it plays and any replayability with it, although being in the UK I don't have an opportunity to buy it locally anyway.
But good news for everyone is they mentioned another KS for Hand of Doom mid-year.

Found two less-than classics by old masters yesterday: Reiner Knizia’s Black Sheep and Wolfgang Kramer and Horst-Rainer Roesner’s Tycoon. Only learned Tycoon was by Kramer when I was looking up this big box with Dutch, French and English on the back. Neither appear particularly well regarded (though Tycoon apparently received a reprint as El Capitan), but for $11 (including Sorry! Sliders because I’m not made of stone), I’ll take a flyer. It was a good day at Goodwill.

Oh I love Tycoon! It’s an Acquire variant but you play on a linear track instead of a grid and you can build up rather than out. I generally like Acquire variants a lot (see also Rheinlander) and this was one I have a fondness for. I never got El Capitain.

Kind of a weird thrift find.

Thanks but I live in the UK so not in your TZ plus I don't really do streams, not one for sitting and watching games being played for very long.

That sounds more like Big Boss than Tycoon.

Ha, you are absolutely right. But I do really like Tycoon too, which I was of course thinking was called......Big Boss!

A local used bookstore had At The Gates of Loyang on the cheap, in great condition and all sorted in a plano box and everything. I've always heard it's one of the best solo Rosenberg games, so I'm pretty excited to try it out.

Also I was talking to my mom the other day about getting together on mother's day to eat some food, play some games etc. She out of nowhere asked if I had played Nusfjord (a Rosenberg games ive never played, and had never mentioned to her). I said I had not but had heard it was cool, and she was like "Okay I bought it for you, we can play it on mother's day!" So technically I didn't buy that, but I do have it now, and also possibly aliens abducted my mom and replaced her with a clone? Thought it was pretty amusing.
