i watched Team Covenant play the new Alliance format of Keyforge and it made me want to play Keyforge something fierce. i grabbed a display box of the second set for like $22, 12 decks... seems good.

i really liked Keyforge when it came out but ended up selling my stuff just because it wasnt getting played, but i figure for that buy in i can get some games together and get some fun in.

Hell of a price.

Picked up OBSESSION after playing it on BGA. A fun little engine game based around building a louche manor, Pride & Prejudice style. Kind of point salad but you get points for building up your estate, having prestigious guests visiting, growing your family’s reputation, acquiring wealth, and achieving various objectives. Works together and the theming is very fun as you get to announce that Lord So-and-So and Lady Such-and-Such are playing croquet in the garden this turn, etc.

Obsession is wonderful, even more so if you dig the the theme. The glossary that explains all of the game mechanics in terms of thematic elements is beautifully done. (Can't remember whether the Babbling Brook is in the base box, but I love it for being a Perfectly Implemented Thing.)

Between Obsession and Anachrony, I feel like I have worker placement games covered.

I liked the mechanics of Obsession, but what killed it for me was the extreme randomness of the decks. IIRC, you could randomly get a character worth a few victory points, or get one that was worth negative points. I can't remember the specifics, but it didn't feel good to invest in getting a character only to have them not only not fit with what you're trying to do, but actively reduce your score.

Invite sent, Barnes.

I don’t really consider it worker placement. You’re placing your own servants on your own stuff, but you can’t block people out of things.

The randomness hasn’t gotten to me yet. Supposedly the “Upstairs, Downstairs” expansion has things to mitigate it, but I find the base game’s ability to dismiss guests, or to “pick two choose one” is good enough, and provides a legit choice between playing it safe or pushing your luck.

Amusingly, the American characters all give you tons of money but cost you a bunch of reputation as they are bunch of uncouth cads.

I backed the Terraforming Mars dice game, probably stupidly.

Just picked up Pan Am on Amazon for less than $18 shipped.

Edit- It plays 2 - 4. While I assume 4 is the sweet spot, how is it at 2 or 3?

I play it with 2 or 3 all the time and it plays flawlessly.

I think 3 > 4 > 2, but they all play fine.

I'm still waiting for Splotter to release Horseless Carriage. I also bought a Japanese game in the vein of How to Host a Murder. I'm playing it tomorrow and I look forward to it!

For some reason I decided I really wanted Imperial Assault and traded for about half of it and then bought the rest.
