One of my friends brought this version of Modern Art back from a trip to Seoul and it is indeed an amazing thing to behold. All the trappings are completely superfluous but it feels great to use the gavel during an auction. The easel is probably the nicest and most useful part of it though, however you can get those on eBay for pennies if you want a cheap and quick way to make any other version look nicer.

Your might want to track down the gorgeous Oink version instead I guess, but outside of that that looks like a really nice one.

Yeah, I think it comes down to 2 things:

1) What kind of art do you want to be staring at all game?

2) How important to you is it to have a real fucking gavel?

The game is amazing no matter what.

So no joke, I actually already own a gavel. Got it when I was still in school and thinking I was going to be a lawyer. Different times.

I just really like both sets of art and the metal coins in this ed. Plus it looks classy. CMON ed is definitely cheaper and available though, and I could just, you know, add my gavel.

Lawyers don't use gavels. ;)

There are several reasons why I did not become a lawyer.

Editing because I don't want to totally derail: I was obsessed with legal process but never had the stomach for actual criminal law. Looked into contract law. Turns out I'm not boring enough for that. Then none of it mattered because I had to come back home and help run the family business. Womp womp.

I have several gavels that I received for trial and appellate advocacy awards. However, I’d mostly like to use these gavels on the foreheads of other lawyers just like a war hammer.

I can get Trains and Trains: Rising Sun and the first map pack, combined into a single box and shipped to me for $60. It's a total deal, and I'm trying to talk myself into the idea that my kids will play this. They have enjoyed Dominion, and are culturally 50 percent Japanese at this point. Also, Rising Sun fixes problems in the first game. One of my very picky Geekbuddies who normally drools over highly complex games and tears everything apart likes it a lot. So this is my rationalization process. So now I'm checking the couch cushions and debating selling other games that I was convinced the family would play.

I failed my board game deal saving throw and grabbed Quest For El Dorado for $15 from Amazon. It's been on my wishlist for a while, and I think my wife will really like it too.

It's a race game based on deck building, designed by Reiner Knizia. Rock solid lighter game with an interesting twist on the way the market works in a deck builder.

Holy moly, it's a well-rated Knizia deckbuilder race game with glorious Ravensburger components! I'm glad that some parasite bought every single $15 copy and is reselling them for $30 now, or I'd have to explain this purchase to my wife.

El Dorado is usually in the $20-$25 range. It is also one of the best games of the past several years. It’s top shelf Knizia. We’ve played it A TON and it’s always fast fun. By far the best deck builder as far as I’m concerned. don’t hesitate to buy it if it comes up on sale again.
