Picked up my first two Keyforge decks:

The Riskless Scamp of Quakestone
Joanne Kaisun from the Colleage’s Lodge

I’m upset the image for the latter isn’t a sock over a doorknob

I’ll post what I think about it after a few games!

Got the two expansions for Western Legends today; "Fistful of Extras" and "The Good, The Bad, and The Handsome".

I say expansions but of course, for the most part, this is all stuff that should have been in the original game. The new items especially should not have been set aside for an expansion. However that is the world we live in nowadays. Keep stuff out of the original box to keep the initial price point down and then sell it at a premium later in an "expansion". I guess I can complain all I want but I bought it so who's to say they are wrong.

Anyway, Fistful has some good stuff in it. Six new characters along with minis. A minor variant to use when fighting bandits to give them a bit more color and individuality. Some Jokers to put in the poker deck for a bit more luck/randomness. All pretty cool.

"The Good" is a bit more suspect. Three new characters but no minis, a few new story cards that give out "legendary" items as a reward and a slim deck of said legendary items which are to be kept face down at the general store. Ok, that's alright I guess. The Legendary items though are visually almost identical to the normal items so that might be a problem during play/set up. We'll see. Also $25 for this expansion seems excessive. Again I complain but I did pay up. So call me a sucker.

For some reason the Amazon price on those two expansions is above the MSRP. Those expansions are each at least $10 cheaper direct from Kolossal, although they're showing as OOS at the moment. I think I may pick them up next convention season.

When I placed the order, they weren't in stock yet so I'm guessing Kolassal will have them for sale very soon. Maybe after they send them out to kickstarter backers?

As for the increased price via Amazon, well that sucks but I guess I paid a premium to be the first kid on my block to have them. So I guess that makes me pretty cool for the next five minutes or so.

Five minutes later...

Just checked out the Kolassal home page. Interesting.

They have a game about building a flower garden. I'm not being sarcastic when I say that I think that looks pretty neat. Certainly different. Only going by their blurb it sounds like it could be a good family game. Or at least my family who like tile laying and "cuteness". Almost reads like a light version of "Fucking Reef Encounter"®. (I should get bonus points for digging that phrase out of the prize closet)

Conversely, they have a new Lovecraftian mythos game!!!! Thank Christ. Lord knows the world was languishing for another one of those. I am being sarcastic when I say that.

I think all the images are stylized representations of dollar bills flying out of your wallet.

A co-worker surprised me this year by giving me a copy of Small World. Apparently it's a game she really enjoys and she figured I might like it as well. I have the inclination to exchange it, but the thought of doing so makes me a little sad because it was such an unexpected gesture. Anyone want to offer a ringing endorsement? All I have right now is that my young children may one day be interested in it...

My recollection is you'll find a pretty solid amount of support on these forums for Small World. A lot of people think it's a good conflict game that is dressed in very bland euro clothing.

I actually really like Small World! One of DoW's best. Give it a couple plays. Worst case if you hate it it's a DoW game and will hold some trade/sale value.

Get back to us on Millennium Blades, I don't have any circumstance I'd buy or play it but I love hearing about it.

I just picked up Homeland: The Board Game from Amazon for $8.50 on Amazon Prime. This is the second time that I've purchased it having traded it away a few years ago in a multiple board game deal for TITAN!. I couldn't pass up the $8.50 shipped. Also, I loved the show and it's a good game.

I have Vinci rather than Small World, but same principle. It’s a damn good game that combines an auction for wildly imbalanced factions with typical dudes on a map multiplayer mayhem. The different abilities keep it fresh between plays.

Small World more depth than many give it credit for, and it has a higher charm value and thematic connection to the older Vinci. It’s too bad these older games get overlooked.

I agree with SaMoKo. Small world is a good game. It's just VINCI with a cuter retheme which makes it appear lighter than it is. I don't play it though, because it gives me AP - it is indeed deeper than it appears.

WRONG! Small World is awful. It just rubs me the wrong way that there’s no way to defend a position. Anything you do is immediately undone. As a wargamer and a software engineer it drives me bats that nothin can be built to STAY FRIKKIN’ FIXED.

I liked Small World and some of my group didn’t because of the abrupt change of race. To them it felt like it was forced and breaks up the civ building aspect.

I disagree. It’s a good family game.

NOW...I got the latest wave of four Exit! Games for the wife for Christmas, which resulted in her side eying me and making rumbles about buying my own gifts. I explained that unless there was a new guitar under the tree, that didn’t happen and I genuinely thought she loved them.

She relented and said that she did and was glad I got them for her...us
