If you look closely, one of the zombies from The Walking Dead (haven't the foggiest which issue) is wearing a shirt that says "I'd rather be playing Cosmic Encounter."

I'm on a classic literture kick lately. Right now I am reading Don Quixote. Should be done in a month or two. Book is beefy.

Going for Ken Follet's historical fiction set in the 12th Century, The Pillars of the Earth. Pretty good so far....

Pillars of the Earth is a great book and the quasi-sequel World Without End is quite good too.

So I finished Never Let Me Go. Grim beyond belief. But it's a richly allegorical novel with the emotional impact of a freight train. Quite the most affecting and disturbing thing I've read in a good couple of years.

And it's technically a sci-fi book, if that encourages any of you nerds to read some highbrow literature for a change :)

Can't I just watch the movie and pretend I'm all classy?

I'm sure this one is close enough:

I'm reading Bloodforged, part 2 of Nathan Long's Ulrika the Vampire trilogy (I reviewed part 1, Bloodborn back in 2010 ). This is a rollicking good fantasy read, and not just for fans of GW's Warhammer. I've also started to plow my way through the weighty tome that is the new 40K 6th Edition rules:

It'll take me a while to get through this cover-to-cover, especially at my current slow reading rate.

My wife convinced me to read Hunger Games.

What a weak ass ending.

Warning: Spoiler!

The whole HUNGER GAMES series is even worse. It's tripe. As mentioned earlier in this thread, read THE LONG WALK and THE RUNNING MAN by Stephen King. Throw in THE LOTTERY by Shirley Jackson and you have those themes covered and much better done.

I am finishing TWILIGHT OF THE ELITES, which is good, if depressing. It's sociological, so think THE BLACK SWAN by Taleb more than say, THE GREAT UNRAVELING by Krugman.

Because I always need to be on the cutting edge and the leader in all things trendy and fashionable, I have begun reading I, Claudius by Robert Graves.

Yeah, I had her read The Long Walk as I read Hunger Games. She threw the book at me when she hit the end.
