When playing by myself I find it liberating because I can just hide in a bush and snipe people instead of worrying about "winning". With such huge population counts there is no pressure on ME to do well.
There is a mode in this one called Hazard Zone (I think) that sounds like a take on Hunt: Showdown or Escape from Tarkov. Several squads of 4 all trying to get "data drives" and then catch an evac helo. Haven't tried yet but I want to check it out.

They never feel like I can have an impact on the match, and everything I do is just futilely running towards a thing and then dying when I get there.
My kid learned this lesson the hard way with BF2042 this weekend. He's used to fortnites more generous 'death' system when on a team.
Nothing beats Arma 3. 20 minutes of stalking to get into position, only to be collateral damage from some random artillery, back to base and start all over again...

I hope it's good, because they aren't giving them away.

HOLY SHIT is that a massive leap forward from my old Samsung gear vr! It's mostly gonna be a toy for the kids but that thing is legit awesome tech for 250 bones.
Gonna see how best to play HL Alyx.

Ha, I was going to recommend Pook stay away from Arma and Squad. I've spent hour long Squad matches building Fobs and not firing more than two of three rounds.

Speaking of which, I picked up the new COD game for by brother and myself on Black Friday as an early Christmas present. Only been out a couple weeks and already in sale for $40. I wasn't going to buy this one since it didn't look particularly interesting even by COD standards, but hey it's a lot of fun. By which I mean it's exactly like all the other recent COD games. This one's got lots of maps at least, which is a nice change after the last one launched with like 6. Anyway, not much to say about COD at this point I guess.
Also I'm still entirely cracked on shell kaizo levels in Mario Maker 2. Playing and making them constantly.

As for the ground game, my son and I tried a hilarious technique yesterday. He threw explosives on my drone, and I flew it next to an enemy tank and he detonated it. Works perfectly.

Then I did Ghost of Tsushima. Again, put the combat on easy. It was fun, I had a good time, I killed the main guy and was in the endgame and...I just stopped. I don't know why. I was enjoying it. But I stopped and haven't touched the PS4 since. It's been months.
I also bought at some point the Miles Morales game, but it's sitting on top of the Ghost of Tsushima box.
With my interest in Game Maker Studio, though, I'm thinking of trying to re-play through the Ultima series. But I know that's 80% nostalgia talking. Just like replaying Fallout 1, it seems like a great idea until you're in that fucking radscorpion cave at the beginning, saving and reloading a million times.
I also downloaded a game called Caverns of Qud. I've always been on paper interested in roguelikes, but in practice I don't have the patience for them. I've tried to find one that has a genuine newbie mode, where items are already identified and lethality is turned down, but it seems like everyone feels like obfuscation and lethality are baked into the form and can't be negotiated. That's another reason for GMS2. Caverns of Qud supposedly has a mode for me, and also rewards exploration, not just fighting increasingly tough monsters, which is my holy grail. But I haven't run it yet.

Works perfectly in real life as well, to the point where they will probably be a primary terror weapon going forward. Skeet shootin' specialists are gonna be prime security consultants!

I've had tons of fun with Jupiter Hell. It is basically turn based DOOM, and easy difficulty is very tolerable.

The oldest sometimes struggles with winning and losing with grace, but he’s getting there.
