@jackwraith, my favorite youtube comment in awhile

"this album was 1030 years before it's time."

Hey, would I be out of place asking you guys to check out my latest stuff? It's on all the major streaming services. The band/album is called Vericide. I'm pretty proud of it. It's angry punk.

This seems like a big missed opportunity to say that something is 420 or at least 69 years ahead of its time.

The new Carly Rae jepsen album is pretty good. Not as good as emotion, but still pretty good stuff. Main issue is it gets a little samey and meh in the back half. Should have culled a couple songs in there. Either way, still a very enjoyable album.

I am a CRJ super fan. I’m taking my family to see her in July. Like many CRJ fans, I’m a little unreasonable about her. I started listening after my daughter started wanting to hear “Call Me Maybe” in Sing...I listened to her other stuff and was like “hang on, this is NOT garbage”. Now I barely go a day without hearing at least one CRJ track.

It’s true- Dedicated is not as good as E-Mo-Tion or even the B-sides from it...but really, what could be because that is a near perfect record and some of the best pure pop out there. The problem I have with it is that the bangers and “Warm Blood”/“Cut to the Feeling/“Black Heart” tier tracks were singles so the remainder feels weaker- especially after “Too Much”, one of the best songs she’s ever done. The more downtempo, album track stuff just can’t compete with any of those five singles because they were all awesome- especially “Julien”, which has gone from “huh” to “one of the best tracks on the album. I do really like the song with Jack Antonoff, which sounds like a cross between Bleachers and Prince with CRJ singing sexier-than-usual vocals over it. Overall it’s still an extremely good and even great modern pop album that’s really more indie synthpop than the calculated, prefab Taylor Swift junk that some might wrongly lump CRJ in with.

Modern popular rap is typically something I loathe, but this Megan Thee Stallion album is kinda great. It's refreshing to hear someone get hyped that can actually rap.

Have you heard Yugen Blakrok? I'm pretty selective about modern music, too, but I think she's really good.

Sometimes you just gotta listen to Horrified I think. Today is that day!

I've also been listening to the new Hatchie and Mannequin Pussy albums a lot to slightly change gears.

Wow, I haven’t listened to Horrified in many years...what a classic. I always thought it was kind of a shame that they were just slightly ahead of the curve on the grindcore thing and on the wrong continent for it. Definitely on par with Napalm Death, Carcass, Heresy, Extreme Noise Terror and that lot.

I just started listening to Zeal & Ardor. Traditional black spirituals and gospel mixed with...black metal. It’s quite interesting.

Also Deafheaven’s “Black Brick” over and over...by far their most all out metal track, and one of the best black metal songs I’ve ever heard.

GET YOUR D20's OUT!!!

This puts a smile on my face. I grew up listening to this stuff. I'm one of the few people on the planet that think Caress of Steel is Rush's best album.

This song is stuck in my head today, and makes a fine soundtrack to a hectic Monday at work:

The band Martha is probably my favorite currently active band, and somehow I missed that they related a new full length last April. I don't pay a ton of attention to new music these days I guess. Point is, in super excited for this new Martha album!

Although I didn't agree with all of Trent Reznor's musical choices for the recent Watchmen tv show, playing the opening notes of Devo's Mongoloid was a great pick for one of Jean Smart's scenes. First, the song has a killer opening, and second, it was a quick way to establish her character as old but still edgy and cool. Until that scene, I had forgotten all about the song, but now I like it more than ever because I now realize that it's also a very danceable song.
