What TV SHOWS are you watching?

I can't watch it anymore. I gave it a chance because I really like the comic book but the comic is NOT a procedural cop story with a weirdo whacky lucifer tagging along. It's much better than that and focuses on Lucifer with no cops at all.

As a result, I really hate this show but I eventually watched 3 seasons under pressure from my wife. Even she has given it up now.

Bring back Hellblazer, that was much better.

I wouldn't say it's good. It's more just... comfortable network TV that is reasonably written.

Yeah, it’s a buddy cop show where one of the characters is a charming prince of darkness. It’s not breaking any ground but it goes down easy.

Watching Away with Hillary Swank on netflix. Ugh. 15% space stuff about the first trip to mars, 15% made up space stuff, and 70% interpersonal nonsense family drama because of course we can't have science problems to solve so let's have emotional ones instead.

I'm not done with it yet so maybe they shed the "call home and whine" stuff and actually, you know, go away. It is a good argument why NOT to throw a diverse mix of people together because they clash repeatedly and are a leadership headache. Anyway, definitely prefer For All Mankind more. Didn't make it far through Sean Penn's The First either but maybe I'll circle back around to it.

We won't mention the hokey show with Katie Sackoff....

I've been rewatching Watchmen this week. Man, that show is soooo weird.

I loved almost everything about it the first time through (I still think they totally missed the mark with Veidt's character, but I appreciate how he fits in the show), but this second viewing allows me to just sit back and relax. Now that I'm not trying to figure out clues or the plot or who everyone is and all of that, I can just marvel at how incredibly strange the whole show is.

I think the way this show best pays tribute to the original comics is that it is infinitely rewatchable, with tons of details to pick up on every time.

My guilty pleasure in recent weeks has been a BBC show: Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Based on the anonymous biography of the same name, this is a show that sort of runs a full gamut of emotions over the course of four 8-episode seasons. Billie Piper is the star, and some of you may know her from Doctor Who. I never liked Doctor Who, so she was new to me. Anyway, the writing is decent and the content ranges from amusing sex scenes to relationship drama. Although Piper has a nice body, I consistently found her one of the least attractive women on the show, though her personality definitely carries the show. Various British actors of note make appearances, including Matt Smith (11th Doctor) and Colin Salmon. The theme song is just the excellent horn section portion of Amy Winehouse's hit You Know I'm No Good. The music in season three wasn't just good, it was like somebody downloaded two discs of my favorite songs.

Amazon Prime has the first three seasons. Not sure why they don't have the fourth season.

Billie Piper had a 90s bubble gum pop music career well before she was on Doctor Who.

These should be "TV SHOWS I'm half-watching."

Selling Sunset - I don't think I'm the target audience. Catty real-estate salesladies trying to sell million+ dollar homes. The houses are usually nice. My daughter thinks it's the greatest show on TV, but she loves trash reality TV (e.g. Big Brother).

Ratched - Another one my daughter was pushing. Damn, is it boring. Really pretty though. I think I read somewhere that Netflix paid $300M for this. They got ripped off.

Latest series of GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW dropped on Netflix and I am always down for some wholesome laid-back semi-competition. It’s all predictable at this point but it feels cozy rather than tired.

Netflix has started doing the “one episode a week” thing. I don’t like this.

I was a little surprised about someone she didn't kill in episode six, but it fits her ideology.
