I'm probably going to spend full price to see this in Imax, based on the Metacritic review. The $5 Tuesday shows are way sold out.

I've got my tickets for tomorrow night at 7. Assigned seating and recliners. The only way it could get better is if I could bring beer and smoke a j.

i'm not excited at all to see it. I don't know what's wrong with me.

I think it's cuz I want another Rogue One rather than another Force Awakens.

Me and the boys are going to see it at 5 pm on Friday, also with the assigned seat recliners so we need only show up early enough to get snacks. I'm less excited than I was for Force Awakens, but orders of magnitude more excited than I am to ever again watch the narcolepsy-inducing Rogue One.

My wife offered to babysit the five year-old while we go so I told her to be wary of spoilers on FB until she gets a chance to see it: "OMG, when General Hux

This one is getting great reviews, but appears to be another Empire Strikes Back in terms of story.

In other news, my doctor diagnosed me as having a low midi-chlorian count. Now I'm taking a Jedi supplement and the Force is with me!

I'm exactly at that point.

Wow. I saw two bad reviews and decided to stop looking for them. I figured that's why Barney didn't want to see it.

Won't be too surprised to see a bunch of Empire Strikes Back homages in this movie. But like I said in the last Star Wars thread, I'll gladly take a competent retelling of the original trilogy with fun new characters than a completely bland "serious adult" snoozefest like Rogue One.

Definitely not ESB retelling! It looked like it at the beginning, and then twisted sooo hard. Similarities can be drawn, but I feel it's really different.

Cranberries, you want to add no spoilers to the thread title so people know this is a safe place to hear about the movie without running into spoilers? I spoiled the end of force awakens for myself and want to avoid repeating that blunder

Let's hope so. They're a bunch of loose cannons. The Empire would be running smoothly now if they handn't stuck their upturned Midichlorian-filled noses into everyone else's business.

It took quite a while to get consistently awesome, but it definitely was awesome from about 3/5 in to the end. And some of the earlier stuff is great, too. But it did feel kind of hit-or-miss for a while. It’s unfair to say, when I’ve seen Force Awakens five times and this once, but I think Force Awakens is more solid with its characters, moments, and pacing. Abrams is a more experienced writer/director than Rian Johnson, and I think that shows here (and bodes well for Ep. 9 to close things out).

But... Johnson delivers in energy and imagination. There are several big and wonderful moments and scenes in Last Jedi. It is very broadly a parallel to Empire, but much more original by comparison than Force Awakens is in its parallel to A New Hope.

Ack, why isn’t this a spoiler thread??

Yeah. For crying out loud - put up a spoiler alert in the thread title.

THERE'S A SUBTLE SPOILER AHEAD!

Bulleted observations
- It has great moments, but not enough to be a great movie.
- Mark Hamill is almost worth the price of admission alone, but then Luke does some wonky stuff and you're like, "Joker?"
- The scene with Carrie Fischer jumping the shark is SO GROAN INDUCING. Fucking-A, I thought I would leave the theater it was so stupid.
- It's uneven. It's a serviceable Star Wars film, and I guess that's the future of the franchise. Fanboy serviceable...
